Actalent Test Systems Design Engineer in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Job Title: Lead Test Systems Design EngineerJob Description

We are seeking a Lead Test Systems Design Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will design Automated Test Equipment (ATE), hardware, and software for new product development programs and the replacement of existing test systems, supporting a variety of complex electronic aerospace applications.

Responsibilities

  • Design ATEs, hardware, and software for new product development and replacement of existing test systems.

  • Develop in-depth knowledge of automated test engineering discipline.

  • Lead the development of test equipment through all phases of the project: Planning, Requirements, Architecture, Hardware/Software Design, Integration, Verification.

  • Influence overall test strategy, test data analytics, and board test strategies for manufacturing.

  • Evaluate, select, and apply test engineering techniques and procedures independently.

  • Control schedules, forecasting, and budgets on the Test Equipment (TE) development execution.

  • Generate test software and design electrical test hardware, leading corresponding design reviews.

  • Create test design documentation.

  • Mentor and coach other test engineers in technology, design, and processes.

  • Work closely with R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, and Product Engineering teams.

  • Provide technical support to manufacturing.

  • Prepare material for and participate in customer reviews and presentations.

  • Provide timely communications to project leadership on significant issues or developments.

Essential Skills

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.

  • 5+ years of experience in Test Systems Design developing automated test systems for complex electronic products or electrical systems design.

  • Software design experience, with 75-80% of the role focused on software.

  • Proficiency in software design/development in C++ or C#.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with processor-based electronics hardware, particularly in test and diagnostics.

  • Proficiency in software development using National Instruments TestStand.

  • Circuit design capability for test equipment (signal conditioning, signal conversion, stimulus synthesis, filtering, cable harness design, etc.).

  • Familiarity with interfaces including, but not limited to, analog, discrete, RS-232/422/485, ARINC 429/664/825, etc.

  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and achieve milestones and deliverables.

  • Systems engineering approach to development.

Work Environment

The role requires 2-3 days a week onsite in Grand Rapids, MI, with significant lab work necessitating onsite presence.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $77.00/hr.
