(Student) Accounting Assistant

WORK LOCATION: Grand Rapids - Lettinga Campus

DEPARTMENT: Accounting-General Accounting

POSITION PAY RANGE: $8.90 - 10.00, Hourly

TARGET HIRING RANGE: Actual pay offered will be commensurate with candidate qualifications and experience, the type of role, pay equity and available funding.

SUMMARY:

The primary focus of the Accounting Intern is to assist the accounting department managers (general accounting manager, accounts payable manager, accounts receivable manager, and payroll manager) with various daily responsibilities in the accounting department. These responsibilities are performed in an ethical manner consistent with the University's mission, vision, and values which include diversity, equity and inclusion.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist with preparation of monthly bank reconciliations. • Assist in the audit of procurement card purchases • Assist with the accounts payable checking account escheat process • Assist with employee expense reimbursement. • Assist in the audit of general ledger revenue, expense, and fixed asset accounts • Assist with the audit of bookstore inventory valuation. • Assist in the audit of accounts payable cut-off procedures and accounts payable accruals. • Assist in the reconciliation of accounts receivable for federal contracted programs and other miscellaneous accounts. • Assist with compiling, entering, and processing of University bi-weekly payroll. • Provide excellent customer service, anticipate and exceed the needs of our customers. • Understand and abide by all external and internal regulations and policies. This includes NCAA, GLIAC and national affiliations associated within athletics or other role specific regulations. • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Current Davenport University student within the Accounting Honors program. • High School Diploma or GED equivalent • Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours and meeting the standards of academic progress. • Experience in office setting preferred. • Demonstrated ability to work accurately and effectively with computerized data systems (PC and mainframe). • Excellent interpersonal skills that transcend diverse audiences; communicating to university customers with positive attitudes toward change, confidentiality, and conflict resolution • Demonstrated motivational and problem solving capabilities with a high degree of integrity, ethics, and dedication to the mission of the University. • Must be highly motivated and solution oriented with a high degree of integrity, ethics, and dedication to the mission of the university • Business office environment. Prolonged sitting and standing. Use of personal computer and telephone (eye and hand strain). • Some travel between locations may be required (own transportation). No regular lifting requirements, occasional lifting up to 35 pounds.
