University of Michigan Health-West Managing Director Regional Network Development in Grand Rapids, Michigan

University of Michigan Health-West (Formally Metro Health) is looking for a Managing Director Regional Network Development.

The person in this role will be responsible for leading the fundraising team and setting the strategic vision to meet fundraising and campaign goals. The Managing Director will manage and solicit a portfolio of major and principal prospects to support UM Health priorities. The Managing Director will provide overall strategic leadership and management to the regional network fundraising team and will work closely with regional and hospital leadership to ensure alignment with organizational goals.

Reporting to the Michigan Medicine Development Senior Associate Vice President and Chief Development Officer, with a dotted line to the President, UM Health Regional Network, the Managing Director Regional Network Development will set the strategic direction for fundraising initiatives for the University of Michigan Health Regional Network which includes University of Michigan Health Sparrow (UMHS), and University of Michigan Health West (UMHW).

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Ten or more years of progressively responsible development experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise a high degree of judgment and diplomacy, and an impeccable commitment to confidentiality is required, as well as highest integrity and ethics.
  • Demonstrated success in capital fundraising, program support and endowment gifts.
  • Experience working in healthcare fundraising including proven experience with securing gifts of $1M and more.
  • Proven success working in a multifaceted, fast paced development environment.
  • Proven success of solid management and leadership skills, preferably in a healthcare environment.
  • Excellent oral and written and communication skills with an engaging, genuine and mature personal style.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as a proven record of working collaboratively with others is necessary.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage, motivate and mentor major gift officers.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically in a complex academic environment.
  • Ability to exercise a high degree of sound judgment and diplomacy, with a commitment to confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job.

     

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning

Create and implement a comprehensive multi-year engagement and fundraising plan to increase philanthropic support for UMHS and UMHW in collaboration with the Regional Network President and regional and local hospital leadership.

Gather data, assess prospects, and develop strategies designed to realize the current and lifetime giving potential of individual prospects.

Aggressively identify and formally qualify new major and planned gift prospects by developing and executing long-range and short-range strategy, aligning Regional Health Network leadership and key physicians as needed to increase involvement and advance outcomes, producing continuous stream of donors capable of making significant gifts.

Develop expertise in areas of opportunity that increase support for regional hospitals.

Work closely with the Senior Associate Vice President, Michigan Medicine Development Senior Leadership Team, and Regional Health Network leadership to develop short and long-term strategies to fulfill campaign fundraising goals.

Have comprehensive understanding of UM Health Regional Network and Michigan Medicine Office of Development priorities and make persuasive verbal and written cases for supporting key programs and projects, effectively matching the intere
