Field Service Technician

Grand Rapids-Kentwood Metropolitan Area, MI

$70,000 - $100,000

Kelly Services, in collaboration with a leading company in the industrial manufacturing sector, is seeking a Field Service Technician. Our client is renowned for designing, producing, and supporting advanced machining solutions, with a primary focus on state-of-the-art CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machine tools. They are looking for a Field Service Technician to install and repair machines and accessories at customer sites, as well as provide technical information on the operation or repair of these machines and accessories.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the work environment is safe and healthy for all employees.

  • Perform installation of machines and accessories at customer locations, including assembly, leveling, aligning, adjusting, calibrating, and wiring.

  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and software issues on machines and accessories at customer locations.

  • Conduct post-installation or repair tests to verify the proper operation of machines and accessories.

  • Provide customer training on the various functions of the machines.

  • Stay informed about new machine features and accessories as they are introduced.

  • Prepare detailed reports documenting installations, problem assessments, repairs performed, and parts installed.

  • Be willing and able to travel, with assignments potentially requiring overnight or multiple-night stays.

  • Utilize various testing equipment, such as indicators, test bars, clamp force gauges, and others, for troubleshooting purposes.

Qualifications:

  • 2-year technical training in electronics, mechanical or machine tool assembly

  • 3-7 years of experience in Field Service

  • High School Diploma

Skills:

  • Proficient in reading and comprehending engineering drawings.

  • Capable of working independently or collaboratively to complete required tasks.

  • Knowledgeable in understanding and working with PLCs.

  • Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic circuits.

  • Basic computer proficiency.

  • Ability to routinely lift up to 50 lbs and occasionally lift weights in excess of 50 lbs.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities tailored to specific situations.

  • Excellent writing and reporting skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
