Veralto Embedded Firmware Engineer C/C++ in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Your challenge

To develop embedded software to satisfy product functional and performance requirements and to develop and improve the systems, methods and processes used to accomplish the task. This engineer develops and supports firmware and electronics solutions for the X-Rite market-leading product lines of optoelectronic color and appearance measurement devices including spectrophotometers, colorimeters, embedded sensors, and spectral imaging systems. This key role works with a global R&D team (US/Europe) of multidisciplinary engineers including system, optical, electrical, mechanical, and software engineers to produce state-of-the-art color management solutions.

  • Develop system-level firmware and electronics for measurement devices encompassing analog and digital electronics and embedded systems that meet quality, performance, and price targets.

  • Develop C++ core modules in a modularized architecture of an embedded Linux platform including writing kernel modules and Linux recipes.

  • Implement low level firmware, e. g. drivers and hardware close code.

  • Implement regression tests on unit and integration level in an automated CI/CD environment.

  • Code using security by design concepts.

  • Perform analysis, test requirements, reliability, trouble shooting and effective problem solving.

  • Partner with R&D, project, and DBS leaders to continuously improve competency and efficiency.

  • Proven ability to work within cost and schedule metric constraints.

  • Strong will to deliver high-quality, cost-effective design solutions on time

  • Proven critical thinking skills with a continuous improvement mindset

  • Self-starter with the ability to develop network across the organization

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor or Master of Science in electrical engineering, computer science, or related field. Five or more years of professional experience and responsibility in a similar function including successful product development from concept phase to mass production world-wide.

Experience and training in most of the following areas are required:

  • Embedded and real-time object-oriented programming using (C/C++) including Linux environment

  • Expertise in instrumentation grade electronic systems

  • Measurement system electronics and firmware architecture design

  • System design verification (reliability and performance) including systematic root cause analysis (from final system to subcomponents to induvial parts)

  • Microcontroller system design

  • Embedded UI development (e.g. Qt or web-based solutions)

  • Analog sensor integration, low noise signal processing, opto-electronics, power/battery management

  • Effective communication skills (internal and external customers)

  • Work breakdown structures, master scheduling and tracking of project tasks

  • Product reliability and quality systems

  • DevOps environment, including version control system (Git) and agile project management tools (e.g. Jira).

The following skills would be an advantage:

  • Experience in optics and / or color science

  • Experience in the measurement instrument industry

  • Experience developing battery powered devices

  • Experience integrating digital cameras into embedded systems

  • Communication interfaces (e.g. Serial, USB, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Ethernet)

  • Experience with modelling and simulation tools (e.g. Matlab)

  • Strong team player working in a multidisciplinary, multicultural, international working environment (US, Europe, Asia)

  • Working experience of project development environment using both phase-gate and agile methodologies

The below range reflects the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future. An associate’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors, including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, any collective bargaining agreements, and business or organizational needs.

The compensation range for this role is $115,000 - $120,000 USD per year. This job is also eligible for Bonus Pay.
