Michigan State University(MSU) Research Assistant I in Grand Rapids - Clinical, Michigan

Position Summary

The primary role of the research assistant is to assist with recruitment, scheduling, study visits, data management, and regulatory documentation. The research assistant will also assist with preparing scholarly output, including data cleaning and analysis. The successful candidate will be highly motivated and have a passion for pediatric psychology or medicine. The primary tasks of the position are to assist the principal investigator (Dr. Natoshia Cunningham) with multiple projects, including: 1) a multi-site dissemination and implementation science grant testing a cognitive behavioral approach integrated into pediatric rheumatology care to address fatigue, depressive symptoms and pain in adolescents and young adults with childhood-onset lupus, and 2) studying the impact of adverse childhood experiences on health- and mental health-related outcomes for individuals with childhood onset lupus and subsequently developing/testing a tailored trauma-based psychological treatment approach for such youth. Additional research opportunities related to psychological assessment and management of pediatric chronic pain conditions may be available, including studies on psychological treatments for pediatric functional abdominal pain disorders and/or training school-based providers in pediatric pain management strategies. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with exquisite attention to detail, excellent interpersonal skills, and comfort working in medical settings. They will have prior research experience and a passion for pediatric/child clinical psychology, medicine, or a related discipline. We strongly encourage applications from under-represented groups. Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in the specific field of research employment or other related science fields; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in standard laboratory procedures and safety requirements and performing analytical and research techniques in an area related to research being performed; may require software specific to the area of research; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The position may require special licensing or certification in the field related to the area of employment.

Desired Qualifications

Knowledge equivalent to a four-year college degree program in psychology, biology, or other related area with a key interest in pediatric/clinical psychology and/or medicine; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in standard laboratory procedures and safety requirements and overseeing research projects, performing advanced statistical analysis; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Excellent interpersonal and management skills; strong computer skills, including word processing; familiarity with the Internet and email; strong writing and proofreading skills; excellent organizational skills; including the ability to multi-task, excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills; strong verbal communication skills; ability to work independently and interdependently.  Experience with SPSS and RedCap strongly preferred; experience with R also desirable. Experience with pediatric populations strongly preferred; track record of successful project management; strong oral and written communication skills; interests in interacting with large and varied multidisciplinary groups.  We do not expect candidates to have all these qualifications and thus encourage persons who are interested in the position in general to apply.
