About Grand Junction Regional Center:

Grand Junction Regional Center (GJRC) exists to provide person-centered quality healthcare, activities of daily living, and an active learning atmosphere in a safe and healthy environment for intellectually and developmentally disabled (IDD) individuals and individuals who may have behavioral health needs in addition to IDD. This work unit provides 24-hour treatment services that comply with State and Federal regulations.

Description of Job

About the Position:

The Health Care Technician III position supervises up to 10 health care technicians assigned to residential sites through direct and delegated authority. As the supervisor and role model, this position monitors and provides hands-on care and/or instruction in daily living activities for persons receiving services to ensure safety and personal outcomes are met as determined by their Individual Plans. This position acts as a liaison between external providers, direct care staff, managers, and therapists, ensuring that personal outcomes are achieved for people receiving services through the supervision of health care technicians, management of resources, management of resident records, and operation of the residential site. In addition, this position identifies emerging issues and works towards resolution utilizing resources within their scope of authority. Health Care Technician III monitors and implements individualized supports and services for people including behavior, social, recreation, work and specialized therapies in residential, day program areas and community settings, responding to behavioral challenges with implementation of specific behavior intervention programs (including Safety Control or Emergency Control). This position plans for audits and allocates resources to meet annual and daily needs of the residential site. Identifies, evaluates and ensures compliance to Agency Policy, Procedure and Regulatory requirements This position may be required to work other locations and/or shifts as needed to address agency resource needs. Duties in this postion include:

Work Lead:

  • provides hands-on care and/or instruction in daily living activities for persons receiving services, such as bathing, eating, and personal hygiene

  • ensure safety and personal outcomes are met as determined by their Individual Plans

  • provide direction and oversee up to 14 staff while being responsible for the delivery of services for a living area, for up to 12 people

  • may be required to work other locations and/or shifts as needed to address agency resource needs

    Program Implementation:

  • monitor and implement individualized supports and services for people. These programs include behavior, social, recreation, work, and specialized therapies in residential, day program areas, and community settings

  • respond to behavioral challenges as needed with the implementation of specific Behavior intervention programs (including Safety Control or Emergency Control)

  • must be annually certified for the skilled implementation of Safety Care

  • interventions are to be from the least invasive and restrictive and only progressing should safety to a person or peers be imminent

  • assists in identifying, in-service, and evaluating staff on training needs for achieving outcomes

    Training:

  • ensures compliance with schedules and training requirements and refers staff competency issues to the supervisor

  • provides input for work performance for employee evaluation(s)

  • act as a liaison between direct care staff and supervisor/ therapies

  • may assume “acting supervisor” duties should the location be without a Technician IV for short or extended periods

    Environment:

  • refine the physical condition of the living site by addressing safety concerns, making purchases, decorating living area and performing housekeeping duties, this includes assisting individuals with decorating their personal space

  • completes the quarterly Environmental Checks, and routinely supports and completes ASSIST observations

    Staff Training:

  • participates in agency work groups, and committees and attends assigned meetings and in-services as scheduled

  • annual recertification is required for “CORE” skills including CPR, suctioning, transfers and lift use, wheelchair securement, CAIT, and VDI

  • additional mandatory training is presented through Continuing Education on an annual basis

Administrative & Other Duties as Assigned:

  • collects, completes, monitors, evaluates, and delegates administrative forms, reports and client records to achieve personal outcomes for persons served and ongoing licensure and certification

  • assist and monitor area budget

  • completes these duties using prescribed electronic and hard copy procedures; utilizing computers and other supporting tools as needed to complete the duties

  • corresponds to internal staff shortages through job posting adjustments, contact the Pool, or coordinates with other work sites

  • other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

A high school diploma or GED

AND

Two (2) years of experience providing direct care services to developmentally disabled individuals and/or dually diagnosed individuals

Substitutions:

Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. If you are going to substitute education for the experience requirement, you must attach transcripts to your application.

Employment history is calculated on a full-time basis (40/hrs per week). Part-time employment is calculated on a pro-rated basis to determine qualifications. Be sure your application specifically addresses your qualifications, experience, work products, and accomplishments as they relate to the position and minimum requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to maintain required licensure/credentials (i.e. LPT or QMAP).

  • Dependable, adaptable, and responsible

  • possess a current and valid LPT license in good standing

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must have valid unrestricted Colorado Driver License

  • A pre-employment criminal background check will be conducted as part of the selection process as this position is deemed to have direct contact with vulnerable persons. Felony convictions, conviction of crimes of moral turpitude, or convictions of misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify you from being considered for this position. Should your background check reveal any charges or convictions, it is your responsibility to provide the CDHS Background Unit with an official disposition of any charges.

  • A Tuberculosis Test (TB) will be required upon hire

  • Required to work on-going, rotating shifts via availability by phone and/or in person.

  • Former employees of the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) who were disciplinary terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose the information on your application and may not be eligible for employment at CDHS.

  • Travel for off site training, to and from homes, and programming
