CITY OF GRAND ISLAND Maintenance Worker - Aquatics - Temporary in GRAND ISLAND, Nebraska

Description

Perform a variety of duties in the maintenance and grounds keeping of the City's aquatic facilities.

Essential Functions

Utilize a variety of hand and power tools, including mowers, weed eaters, etc.; assist in routine maintenance of such equipment.

May perform routine preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.

Utilize proper safety precautions in all work performed.

May perform semi-skilled and skilled tasks involving the maintenance, construction and repair of aquatic facilities.

May perform landscape maintenance duties involving aquatic facilities.

May perform basic carpentry work and painting for building and maintaining aquatic facilities and equipment.

May perform a variety of duties in the installation, maintenance and repair of City's irrigation systems.

Water, mow, weed, trim, renovate and fertilize lawns; prune trees and shrubs; plant trees, flowers and shrubs.

Some weekend hours may be necessary.

Display honest, trustworthy, and ethical behavior when dealing with internal and external customers.

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Regular attendance that is punctual and dependable is required.

May assist in other sections of the Department as necessary.

Qualifications

Knowledge of:

Methods, techniques, and procedures related to assigned area of responsibility.

Traffic laws, ordinances and rules.

Purposes and uses of a variety of equipment, power tools and hand tools.

Ability to:

Operate a variety of equipment in a safe and effective manner.

Work effectively in the absence of close supervision.

Use and operate hand tools, mechanical equipment, power tools and other equipment required for the work in a safe and efficient manner.

Supplemental Information

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:

No experience required. Must be at least 18 years of age.

Training:

Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.

License or Certification:

Employee must possess a valid drivers license and maintain insurability as determined by the Citys insurance carrier.

Working Hours:

Hours Monday through Sunday 7:00am - 2:00pm will vary depending on department needs but will include working days, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Positions duration is Memorial Day through the end of summer.

Salary:

Position will start at the entry level of the City's salary table. Consideration may be given if experience exceeds entry level qualifications.
