CITY OF GRAND ISLAND Library Temporary Worker in GRAND ISLAND, Nebraska
: Perform a variety of library support activities in the shelving and straightening of materials and books; assist with the summer reading program; provide assistance to library patrons in the location of materials and the operation of equipment; general clerical work including maintaining program records, answering phones, check-in materials, and assist at Children's desk.
: Display honest, trustworthy, and ethical behavior when dealing with internal and external customers.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Regular attendance that is punctual and dependable is required. Shelve and maintain library materials in proper order; maintain neat and orderly appearance of the library. Provide assistance in conducting children's activities for program participants, including assisting in conducting the summer reading program, which may include assisting staff at the Children's desk. Provide assistance to participants in using the computer catalog. Perform basic computer work in library's circulation database. Assist patrons in obtaining library cards; check in and prepare materials for return to the circulating collection. Respond to requests and inquiries from program participants, parents and the general public; explain program guidelines and procedures. Follow all safety rules and procedures established for work area. Perform related duties as assigned.: Knowledge of:
Basic computer skills. Basic library practices and procedures, including alpha and numerical sequencing. Modern office methods, procedures and equipment. Materials and services available in public libraries. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy. Principles and practices of filing and record keeping. Ability to: Must be able to work evening hours, including some weekends. Provide assistance in assigned children's programs. Perform general clerical functions. Read and write legibly and neatly. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Pay attention to detail. Interact with library patrons with diplomacy and tact. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.: Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Experience: Experience working with children preferred. Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age. Training: Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance. License or Certification: Employee must possess a valid drivers license and maintain insurability as determined by the Citys insurance carrier. Working Hours: Position will work approximately 15-20 hours per week. Working hours will vary between working daytime, evening and some weekend hours. Positions duration is May through August. Salary: Position will start at the entry level of the City's salary table. Consideration may be given if experience exceeds entry level qualifications. Other: Bilingual in Spanish is preferred, but not required. Candidates are subject to a background check.
