This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Traffic Engineer for our Valhalla, New York office. The following locations will also be considered: Goshen, N Y. Be involved in projects with our Traffic Engineering and ITS Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.
Provides technical assistance and guidance for the analysis, improvement, planning, engineering, design, and operation of streets and highways, their networks, adjacent land uses, and interaction with other modes of transportation and their terminals. Tasks may include assisting with performing capacity analyses, reviewing permitting, and assisting with the design, concept development, and construction of roadways, traffic patterns, and traffic signal design and timing. Generates accurate and concise reports and documentation regarding construction specifications. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
Your Impact
Function as Lead Traffic Engineer for projects in and around New York State from New York City, the Hudson Valley, and the Capital Region.
Provide technical analysis for a wide range of transportation infrastructure and land development projects
Management and mentoring of staff
Perform traffic impact studies including data collection and intersection/highway capacity analysis using HCS, Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM and other traffic engineering analysis software
Interface with staff from a range of other disciplines (civil, structural, planning) to support a diverse range of projects
Traffic signal design, timing development and implementation
Preparation of supporting written documentation, i.e. memoranda and reports, for studies and design, including those related to Environmental Impact Statements, Knowledge of traffic engineering tools, including Highway Capacity Manual/Highway Capacity Software, Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM/VISUM, and other equivalent modeling and analysis
Knowledge of traffic control device design, including developing plans, specifications and estimates for construction projects
Experience in traffic signal design and ITS design
Working knowledge of appropriate Federal Highway Administration, CEQR/SEQR, NYSDOT, and other relevant guidelines, including the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, the AASHTO
Green Book, and the NYSDOT Highway Design Manual
Experience with Micro-Station and/or AutoCAD
Ability to establish partnerships with internal and external project management, client representatives, government agencies, and other organizations
Positive attitude and people skills that constitute a team player
Work cooperatively with staff to effectively deliver projects on schedule and within budget
Ability to train and mentor junior staff
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Knowledge of ADA Standards for curb ramp compliance and pedestrian facilities is desirable
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
BB.S. degree in Civil Engineering
3+ years of experience in traffic engineering design and construction projects
Demonstrated track record of working with state, municipal, and private clients
A strong background in traffic engineering and transportation planning
Ability to work in the United States immediately
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Engineering.
Essential Professional Licensure/Certification in NY
Experience managing small to mid-size projects.
Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification is desirable
Compensation and Benefits:

Expected Salary: $85,900 - $108,000
