General Summary

The Senior Designer leads complex projects and serves as a subject matter expert for company initiatives. In addition, this position develops retail fixture plans all new and remodel stores to be in compliance with all company merchandising objectives including both prototypical and non-typical building layouts. This position plays a key role in influencing the visual impression and customer experience as it relates to layout, fixtures, and use of merchandise planograms in a manner that best conveys the Dollar General brand in every location.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead departmental projects for New, Relocation and Remodel stores, including development and execution of new fixture and merchandise layouts, publishing and distribution of finished layouts to all key stakeholders, and guiding less experienced team members to ensure compliance with all company procedures

  • Serve as escalation point for critical layout revisions and issue resolution based on changes in planogram and merchandise direction or physical building changes at the time of fixturing

  • Directly responsible for project based quality, schedule and production goals

  • Work directly with Construction, Store Development, Store Services, outside vendors, and other business partners in the clarification and resolution of issues pertaining to store layouts

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Available on-call to manage urgent requests from teams in the field

  • Interact professionally and effectively through verbal and written communication (especially creative clarification) with all professional contacts with emphasis on company direction, concepts, ideas and expectations

  • Independently prioritize and accomplish multiple projects within established time frames through others both within and outside the department and ability to assist in the training of junior employees

  • Using creativity, analytical and project management skills, plan, develop and determine appropriate course of action for all merchandise presentation projects

  • Thorough knowledge of retail layout design principles and techniques as the industry evolves

  • Understanding of retail merchandising flows and how it relates to store layout and design principles

  • Team-oriented approach and focus on customer service

Work Experience and/or Education

Minimum of three years in a Store Planning or Visual Merchandising role in a retail environment and required AutoCAD experience. Knowledge and skills through degree in Computer Aided Drafting & Design, and/or architecture, complimented by hands-on experience. AA, BA or BS is preferred; however knowledge and skills may also be attained through experience and technical training.
