Job Title: Senior Operational Excellence Manager (multiple opportunities available with an option to hire at a more junior level, commensurate with experience)

Function: Global Quality Services (PTQSO)

Location: Mississauga, Canada

Note: This position is not a people manager role.

The Senior Operational Excellence Manager is an integral member of the Global Quality Services team that helps to catalyze a culture of lean, quality and innovation to enable faster value delivery across the global Pharma Technical Quality (PTQ) organization and other Pharma Technical (PT) functions and network partners.

The position requires:

    All Roche employees are required to report any information they become aware of related to the safety and /or quality of Roche products, within one business day of awareness. Adverse events should be reported to Roche Canada Patient Safety (Drug Safety) and product complaints to Roche Canada Medical Information. Employees involved in clinical trial oversight will follow SOPs for routing events appropriately.

Purpose:

The purpose of the Senior Operational Excellence Manager position is to drive the deployment of the Lean Production System (LPS) and establish a LEAN/Agile culture and mindset across the PTQ functions globally and for driving continuous improvements to realize the PT strategy and business drivers. This position sits within the Global Quality Systems and Quality Management (QSQM) organization and is charged with providing Operational Excellence, Agile methodologies, Project Management and Organizational Change Management expertise to assist all PTQ global functions and network partners to accomplish their goals and objectives.

Accountabilities:

This individual will be responsible for executing the LPS and agile transformation strategy for PTQ and for helping to develop Lean/Agile capabilities across the network. This role will also be involved in leading and/or participating in process improvement projects, representing the department as the change agent, partnering with customers, communicating/coordinating/bringing together key stakeholders, and delivering real value-add sustainable solutions. This individual will have the support of the operational excellence community to enhance the greater understanding and application of best practices associated with industry and the process improvement methodologies deployed. This individual will be accountable for following the methodology. The work will be done in alignment with Roche values and behaviors.

Requirements:

Lead Lean and Agile deployment efforts:

  • Partner with the PTQ Leadership Teams to develop and align change management strategies for Lean and agile deployment and application at the sites and global teams.

  • Deliver capability training (remote and/or in person) on elements and methods within the LPS House using creative approaches, leveraging digital tools and new ways of working capabilities.

  • Provide guidance and coaching on the use and application of Lean and Agile tools and methodologies to increase LPS maturity and deliver faster value

  • Proactively gemba global teams and sites to identify best practices and improvement opportunities to promote a continuous improvement mindset

  • Catalyze and/or lead initiatives to continuously improve flow efficiency, speed and agility of end-to-end (E2E) Global Quality and Compliance Processes / Systems through the application of LEAN/Agile tools.

  • B uild strong relationships with business operations support, LPS champions, change agents, and Scrum Masters / Agile coaches in PTQ to accelerate the deployment and application of LPS.

  • Facilitate design sprints efforts, transformation initiatives workshops, continuous improvement events / workshops and other team effectiveness sessions to realize goals and objectives.

    Lead / support cross functional project teams and project management activities:

  • D eliver project goals on budget, on schedule and with expected benefits realization

  • Develop customer requirements into an approved project charter

  • Analyze business, process and systems performance, and identify improvement opportunities

  • Make recommendations to senior leaders based on business case and analysis

  • Lead decision making support and make recommendations regarding best options

  • Communicate proactively with stakeholders regarding progress, issues and plans for resolution

  • Develop and use project plans and project management tools to coordinate participants and track and report progress

  • Provide guidance on risk management principles and tool usage

  • Ensure improvement methodology and tools are utilized effectively to maximize benefits

  • Operate with a high degree of autonomy and professionalism; successfully prioritize workload in accordance with business goals

  • L everage the use of PT Project Management Methodology, tools and templates, and in alignment with IT (when applicable) to deliver the projects in an agile way

    Lead / support Organizational Change Management (OCM) efforts:

  • Act as OCM Lead for key PTQ strategic projects and/or transformation initiatives to drive OCM plan and execution, and communication plans.

  • Provide OCM guidance and coaching to Project Leaders and / or Change Agents.

  • Lead / support complex cross-functional process improvement teams and projects to enable and improve adoption of improvements and new ways of working

  • P artner with key stakeholders and customers to assess and address opportunities to deliver real value-add and sustainable solutions by developing strategies to facilitate the change in the organization

  • Drive risk management activities to ensure more robust decision making

  • Demonstration of outstanding continuous improvement skills and ability to mobilize teams to continuously improve

  • Outstanding matrix leadership skills and ability to work in a virtual remote global setting, making best use of modern communication techniques

  • Analytical Problem Solving – Ability to define problem statements, clearly and accurately and apply structured and disciplined methodology to identify data-driven root causes. Innovative and effective in solution development, risk mitigation, and execution.

Job Qualifications:

Education / Experience /Skills

  • Science or Engineering BS / BA required, MS, MBA, and 5-7 years of business / operations experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Certified / Expertise in proven methodologies such as: LEAN / Six Sigma / Agile/ Change Management / Project Management / Risk Management

  • Minimum of 3 years of project management experience required, managing a range of small (<3months) and large (>12months) projects.

  • Minimum 5 years of related analytical, business and operational experience in Quality/Supply Chain Management /Manufacturing / Engineering or Process Development.

  • Experience in organizational development / transformation related to employee development and engagement (Prosci, ADKAR)

  • Experience in developing and rolling out transformational change programs specifically organizational design using Lean tools

  • Sound knowledge of cGMPs and equivalent industry regulations

  • Pharmaceutical industry experience is a plus.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven high-level influencing and negotiation skills as well as excellent skills at building and maintaining constructive and effective relationships within your team, with internal and external stakeholders as well as in matrix organizations

  • Ability to interpret and relate Quality standards for implementation and review

  • Proficiency in data visualization software (e.g. Tableau, Minitab, JMP) and analytics tools that could be applied to quality and compliance data

  • Proficient with Google applications (required), Office (required), ServiceNow Project Portfolio Management (preferred)

  • Fluency in written and verbal English language, additional languages are an asset (German, French, Spanish)

  • Ability to work with global teams and flexible schedule (e.g. start earlier) to meet business needs is a plus.

  • Ability to travel internationally
