Finance Manager (ILS) – Captive Insurance

Aon, Guernsey is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to supervise and manage and service a mix client portfolio of ILS, Captives and assist in leading and managing a larger client service team in line with the strategic policy of the Board whilst challenging and innovating to encourage growth and stability in the business.

Aon Guernsey has been a leader in Guernsey’s insurance industry for over 40 years. We have nearly 300 (re)insurance entities under management including Captive Insurance Companies, Insurance-Linked Securities Vehicles, Special Purpose Vehicles and Specialist Rated Reinsurance Companies.

This is a hybrid role with the flexibility to work both virtually and from our Guernsey office.

What the day will look like

  • First point of contact for clients in connection to accounting and investment matters.

  • Liaising with clients to understand their reporting requirements and ensuring that all deadlines are met across the team.

  • Presentation of the accounting and investment items at Board Meetings.

  • Review and interpretation of contractual documentation to determine the appropriate accounting treatment.

  • Review of management accounts, trial balances, statutory accounts, and all other reporting requirements. Providing training and assistance to account preparers to ensure no errors in the final accounts.

  • Responsible for the preparation of board papers to a very high standard.

  • Work closely with the underwriters and Director to share information and deal with any issues.

  • Responsible for the delivery of a high quality service.

  • Reviewing payments and receipts. Monitoring of cash, fixed deposit, Letter of Credit and Trust Account levels and reconciliation of bank statements. Ensuring bank mandates, investment guidelines and board requirements are followed.

  • Reviewing investment reports and analysis, including controlling and reconciling investment management purchase and sale contract notes, portfolios and calculation of capital gains and losses.

  • Review of all claims and reconciliation of claims bordereaux.

  • Responsibility for the year end audit.

  • Responsibility for all regulatory matters, corresponding with the GFSC and completing annual insurance returns.

  • Follow the procedures manual and evidence having followed all controls.

  • Oversight of client filing to ensure all documentation is filed by the administrator appropriately and is easily retrievable

  • Maintenance of Statutory records.

    Skills and experience that will lead to success

  • The ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA or equivalent).

  • Comprehensive working and technical knowledge of accountancy.

  • Leadership, supervisory and presentation skills

  • Knowledge of insurance industry - products, regulations, and developments. - Highly desirable.

  • Skills in IT software and experience posting to a general ledger system.

  • Experience working in a team and providing training.

  • Good knowledge of company secretarial matters.
