National Grid's Graduate Development Program (GDP) is a year-long development program for recent college graduates who aspire to take on future leadership roles in a dynamic, ever-changing industry. Graduates will shape the future of National Grid. Bringing fresh thinking, new perspectives, and exploring with energy, we'll give you real responsibility and an opportunity to move with purpose from day one - putting the power to supercharge your career in your hands.

Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an in-depth 3-week in-person Orientation which gives you exposure to all parts of the company, allows you to network with your Graduate cohort, GDP alumni, and senior leaders, and provides you with the opportunity to travel throughout our service territory in the northeast US. Following Orientation, you'll begin working in full-time position outlined below and take part in ongoing development activities including quarterly development sessions, active mentorship, and a Hackathon Project.

About the Position

As an Associate Engineer, you will be a part of a team supporting power plant operations that provides power to over 1.4 million people! You will gain valuable exposure to different systems (electrical, mechanical controls, computer automation systems) and projects that play a critical role in keeping the power on. You work directly with several Combustion Turbine Department sites to implement and deliver projects for continuous improvement of engineering processes. You will also be a part of mentorship program that will provide you fantastic insights on other plants and generation assets, while developing a diverse network and increasing your overall learning.

This is an on-site role (5 days a week) with travel between local sites.

What You'll Do

You will have the opportunity to learn and support many areas in power plant operations!

You will:

  • Lead projects on Combustion Turbine Department sites that will directly improve the efficiency of operations and processes.
  • Investigate system performance problems and with Engineering, develop system modifications as needed.
  • Interface with other company departments as well as external contractors and vendors in the performance of plant operations and maintenance.
  • Conduct equipment tests, analyze the results, and prepare recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Oversee company or contractor work force in the performance of plant modifications, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Monitor all plant operating and environmental conditions through regular inspections and review of logs.
  • Be "on call" on a regular scheduled basis during weekends and off hours to respond to plant contingencies.
What You'll Need
  • Bachelor or Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Marine Engineeringfrom an accredited institution
  • Graduated between May 2024 and June 2025
  • Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program on June 2, 2025 or July 7, 2025
  • Valid driver's license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid's Safe Driver policy
  • Work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (such as sponsorship for an H-1B, TN, O, L, STEM OPT, or other employment-based work authorization)

Salary

Glenwood Landing, New York $97,000 - $116,000 a year

You must reside within our existing footprint, which includes contiguous states (New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island and Vermont). A hybrid worker should also reside within a reasonable, commutable distance to their assigned primary office.

This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
