Team Impact As the Pharmacy Technician Specialist, you will be responsible for assisting in the preparation and dispensing of chemotherapy specific pharmaceuticals which support the safe, timely, and accurate delivery of chemotherapy treatments for patients with an oncology diagnosis. You will work closely with our Oncology Pharmacists to ensure that treatment is delivered safely and efficiently. You will have an impact on our patients by providing an excellent pharmacy experience. How You Will Fulfill Your Potential * * Responsibilities · Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, facilitate sterile medication preparation using sterile aseptic technique in compliance with USP 797 ad USP 800 standards · Coordinate the manufacturing of sterile preparations to ensure their timely delivery which includes; selecting the correct medications and diluents from stock, performing mathematical calculations, identifying and measuring appropriate medication/diluent strengths and preparation/manipulation of necessary compounding materials. · Utilize familiarity with common doses and administration techniques for daily tasks. · Prioritize safe handling of hazardous agents · Coordinate workflow based on inpatient and outpatient volumes. · Clean and disinfect primary engineering controls and sterile preparation/admixing areas to ensure a sterile manufacturing environment is maintained in compliance with USP 797 and USP 800 · Purchase medications needed directly from the wholesaler, ensuring they meet specifications and are purchased at the best possible cost or within defined contracts as appropriate. · Use of a point of preparation ordering system while maintaining inventory within established guidelines · Monitor and maintain perpetual cancer center pharmacy inventory to ensure adequate par levels for cost containment, proper storage, adequate dating of medications, stock rotation and inventory documentation · Monitor and document equipment performance according to policy (e.g. refrigerator temperatures and primary engineering controls pressures) · Perform monthly Cancer Center Pharmacy Inspection · Manage purchasing from vendor or wholesaler of miscellaneous supplies and items needed for dose preparations while maintaining par levels · Anticipate use in advance to adequately stock special-order supplies. · Manage inventory (including back-orders and stock-outs) to ensure adequate stock is available · Provide proactive communication to allow inventory management and product transitions when required Qualifications - External Education/Accredited Programs * * · Minimum of high school diploma or GED required Experience · At least 2 years Pharmacy Technician experience in sterile compounding highly preferred · Prior experience with Omnicell, Cerner or other similar programs preferred but not required · Competency in the safe handling of chemotherapy drugs obtained within 6 months and renewed annually * Licenses/Certificates/Registrations:* · Pharmacy Technician National Certification (e.g.: CPhT or ExCPT) required · New York State Pharmacy Technician registration required · National IV certification preferred * Skills/Abilities* · Technical knowledge and understanding of the handling of agents in an IV room environment required · Proficiency in precise measurement of agents with extreme cautionary measures including mathematical understanding of volumes, concentration and general dosing ranges · Knowledge of medication brand and generic names · Ability to follows instructions precisely · Ability to read and interpret memos, operating instruction and procedure manuals · Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to peers, customers, supervisors and other employees · Ability to effectively communicate both directly and via phone/email sensitive information and respond to questions from patients, customers, provider, coworkers, and vendors · Ability to perform accurate data entry, operate a computer and learn computer applications specific to the department · Ability to calculate doses using ratios and proportions · Ability to work independently and with others as a team player · Computer proficiency required * * Communities We Serve * * Located in the foothills of the beautiful Adirondack mountains, Glens Falls is conveniently located a short drive away from the capital region and Lake George. Salary Range The expected base rate for this Glens Falls, New York, United States-based position is $22.13 to $37.69 per hour. Exact rate is determined on a case-by-case basis commensurate with experience level, as well as education and certifications pertaining to each position which may be above the listed job requirements.
