Hours - Fulltime 37 hrs

Summary of Role

Equipment and lab management with a wide range of duties.

Perform functional testing & diagnostics of complex electronic assemblies within an engineering lab environment under the supervision of senior design engineers.

The successful candidate will also be required to keep accurate test records, carry out any maintenance tasks and aid other disciplines to improve overall cost and quality of product. Manage the engineering lab’s test equipment calibration, lab material stock control and support lab safety procedures.

This role includes:

  • Equipment management – calibration, arrange repairs, assist in sourcing equipment (for given Spec to purchase / hire), PAT

  • Assist engineers with test set-up – wiring 3-phase plugs / sockets, Test equipment software download / set-up, Safety covers / boxes

  • Assist engineers with Resistive load set-up, Prototype Assembly / PCB’s, Cable repairs – mechanical work, wiring, soldering, crimping

  • Assist with: Test Dev buy-off – STE assembly, Earth bond testing; PoD / PoM testing – routine testing such as HiPot

  • Assist with risk assessment management – review, ECN, sign-off

  • Assist with COSHH management – Sypol requests for new chemicals

  • Assist with management of equipment, tools, materials – Sourcing (when required), ordering

  • Manage Contractors – onsite calibration, annual PAT

  • Assist with packing equipment / EXIM forms to ship, eg EMC / EMI testing

  • Perform functional testing of electronic assemblies to aid Design Verification and Qualification to support contractual, quality and schedule requirements.

  • Diagnose test equipment related faults.

  • Execution of preventative maintenance and calibration plans for test equipment.

  • Record accurate test records and provide requested yield & failure reports.

  • Assist engineering with any ongoing investigations / initiatives.

  • Aid the continual improvement of efficiency in designated test area(s).

About You

We think you’ll be a fit for this role if you have:

  • A qualification in Electronics, e.g. HNC/HND or higher

  • Approximately 2 years (or more) experience in an electrical role in engineering

  • Demonstrable skills in electrical wiring, electronics and soldering

  • Diligence in capturing outcomes and preparing documentation sufficient for the purpose

  • Familiarity with electrical test equipment such as mustimeters, oscilloscopes, and methods of testing systems in an electrical lab

  • Familiarity with test software eg LabView

  • Demonstrable experience in cable selection, termination, and safety testing for standard low voltage (230v) apparatus
