POSITION: Learning Commons Coordinator

HOURS/STATUS: Full time (40 hours per week), some evenings

LOCATION: Bayshore/Racine Campuses

REPORTS TO: Market Librarian

Position Summary:

Bryant & Stratton College’s Learning Commons Coordinator is responsible for sustaining an environment of academic and profession excellence for students and educational team members. The Learning Commons Coordinator supports students and learning through academic support, tutoring services, technology resources, study and learning resources, and customer service. The Learning Commons Coordinator works closely with all campus departments and associates including academic advisors, faculty, admissions, and librarian, utilizing BSC’s personalized education approach to support student success and retention endeavors.

Essential Position Responsibilities/Functions:

  • Provides direct, campus-based, academic assistance (individual and group) to students at the Bayshore and Racine campus. Develop and lead workshops, supplemental instructional sessions, and provide other academic support to students based on their needs to assist students in achieving student learning outcomes.

  • Coordinates tutoring services, including recruiting, training, scheduling, and supervising professional/student tutors.

  • Assists students with BSC technology resources including ordering books; using email; navigating Blackboard; accessing Banner SSB, Virtual Library, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, CastleBranch, Smarthinking, and ePortfolio

  • Encourages and assists with the formation of study groups.

  • Facilitates communication among students, faculty, advisors, and administrators to support achievement of successful student outcomes.

  • Assists campus-based students taking on-line courses.

  • Coordinate with student services department to academically assist at-risk students.

  • Works collaboratively with the Librarian and assists with library duties as needed.

  • Serve as an ADA coordinator and assist with testing accommodations.

  • Assists with New Student Orientation and coordination of new student mentor program at respective campuses.

  • Monitors the daily operations of the Learning Commons, including scheduling, record-keeping, providing handouts, monitoring/reporting equipment needs, and maintaining a welcoming, professional, student-friendly environment conducive to learning.

  • Up to 8 hours of entrance testing support.

Required Qualifications & Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in Education, Mathematics or English preferred

  • Experience in advising and/or teaching at the college level with a minimum of two years working with at-risk students preferred

  • Demonstrated customer service skills

  • Adaptable with a positive attitude

  • Must be highly organized

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions

  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office 365, Banner SSB, Blackboard (or similar LMS)

  • Ability to work independently or in a team working collaboratively with other departments

  • Ability to work unsupervised and meet goals

  • Ability to listen and positively respond to student and co-worker requests

  • Ability to exercise judgment in the application of college policies and procedures

  • Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, adapt to changing assignments and successfully meet deadlines
