GILMORE CTY & BRADGATE COMM SCHOOL School Counselor in GILMORE CITY, Iowa

This is an elementary-shared position.

Providing individual and group counseling to students to address personal, social, academic, and behavioral issues. This may involve helping students develop coping skills, manage emotions, and resolve conflicts.

Conducting assessments and evaluations to identify students' needs and determine appropriate interventions. This could include academic assessments, behavioral assessments, and screenings for mental health concerns.

Responding to crisis situations such as student emergencies, behavioral crisis, or traumatic events within the school community. This may involve providing immediate support to students and coordinating with other school staff and outside agencies as needed.

Working closely with teachers, administrators, and other school personnel to support students' academic and social-emotional development. This could involve participating in team meetings, developing behavior intervention plans, and providing training on topics related to student well-being.

Collaborating with parents and families to support students' success in school.

Developing and implementing prevention programs to address issues such as bullying, age appropriate growth and development and mental health awareness. These programs may be delivered through classroom lessons, school-wide initiatives, or after-school activities.

Advocating for the needs of students within the school system and community. This could involve advocating for resources and support services, as well as promoting policies and practices that foster a positive school climate.

Maintaining accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions, assessments, and interventions. This includes documenting progress, developing treatment plans, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Engaging in ongoing professional development to stay current on best practices in school counseling, mental health, and education. This may involve attending conferences, participating in training workshops, and pursuing advanced certifications.

Participating in school-wide initiatives aimed at promoting a positive school culture and fostering student success. This could include organizing school events, participating in committees, and contributing to the development of school policies and procedures.
