DRS Signal Solutions, Inc. specializes in communications-surveillance products that meld both RF and DSP technologies and is a leading worldwide supplier of high-quality signal-intercept equipment. The facility designs and manufactures HF, VHF, and SHF tuners and receivers, demodulators, direction finders and wireless intercept solutions.

Job Summary

We're hiring an Entry-Level Digital Hardware/FPGA Engineer in our Germantown, MD office. In this role, you will design, develop, analyze, verify, and validate digital electronic products, systems and subsystems including signal and radar processing systems, network communications, electronic warfare systems, and air combat systems.

Primary Responsibilities

  • FPGA digital logic design, simulation, synthesis, place and route, timing analysis, verification, and Integration activities

  • Tools/Skills proficiencies:

  • VHDL, Verilog and/or SystemVerilog

  • Various scripting languages and approaches such as tcl, bash, perl, etc.

  • Mentor Graphics Questa or ModelSim simulation/verification tools

  • Subversion, CVS, GIT, or similar

  • Xilinx Vivado, Intel Questa, Microsemi Libero SoC, etc.

  • Design, build, and test of cutting edge devices containing both digital and optical hardware

  • Tools/Skills proficiencies:

  • Schematic capture and providing input to PWB/PCB design through layout, fabrication and assembly

  • Some knowledge of high speed serial and parallel interfaces such as 40GBASE-KR4, PCIe, DDR4, USB, SERDES, etc.

  • Some knowledge of lab practices and test using high speed measurement instruments such as VNAs, oscilloscopes, BERTs and TDR/TDT

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions in existing products or systems and makes modifications as needed

  • Compile and evaluate design and test data

  • Analyze, develop and recommend design approaches

  • Provide regular reporting of progress and status

  • Support the program design to cost and design for manufacture requirements

  • Develop prototypes to retire key development risks as directed

  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization

  • May be responsible for some aspects of requirement decomposition/definition/clarification, system design, system verification, associated documentation for digital electronics development, design revision control, and archival of design files

  • May participate in the generation of test and verification plans establishing functional criteria to ensure requirements are correctly implemented

  • May participate in the execution of verification plans and assist in development unit and system testing

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related area required (or equivalent experience)

  • FPGA/PLD and board design experience required

  • Experience with Hardware testing/debug using lab equipment required

  • Experience with VHDL, Vivado, Quartus, and scripting languages preferred

  • Effective communication skills (written and oral)

  • Ability to work independently under supervision of others
