Burning Man NVO Gerlach Center Crew in Gerlach, Nevada
JOB SUMMARY
Gerlach Center provides a framework to support our neighbors locally, helps advance the goal of getting Black Rock City off fossil fuels, and supports multiple programs and properties, including The 360. There is a lot more brewing for the near future, join us!
This crew will participate in the general construction, event logistics, and setup of The 360, Granite Point RV Park, Gerlach Estates, Snowflake, Saloon, Desert Club, and other operational areas in The Gerlach Center. Aspects of the project will include carpentry, dirt work, painting, procurement, event setup, and other manual labor.
This is a temporary, full-time , non-exempt role, based in Gerlach, NV running from April to October , 2023.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Construction & Logistics (90%)
Work collaboratively as a crew member on the setup of The 360 and other operational areas. Duties include: creating shade structures, leveling the earth, constructing and installing signage, installation of spires, installing a large art installation, setting up event spaces as well as other projects as directed by the Gerlach Center Manager.
Perform manual labor as instructed.
Assist with back-of-house duties for events and operations as required.
Help to maintain the general environment and overall security, organization, and functionality of the Gerlach Center. This could include working on or actively maintaining: power, fuel, water, and waste systems, structures, shops, tools, and miscellaneous storage.
Assist in the set-up and breakdown of an on site workshop where the construction will be taking place.
Establish and maintain a clean and safe worksite while utilizing the necessary OSHA approved safety equipment.
Maintain flexibility as needed in schedules due to the workload being dependent upon vendors and other departments.
Other Functions and Responsibilities (10%)
Be familiar and act in accordance with Burning Man’s staff policies.
Abide by the rules and codes of conduct as described in the Nevada Operations Manual, DPW Handbook, and Ranch Protocols.
Other tasks as assigned.
LEARNING AND TEACHING
Documentation - Assists in the maintenance of process documentation related to their assigned duties.
Learning – Pursues ongoing learning in their area of expertise, working to stay current on emergent knowledge, skills, and processes.
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED
1+ years in general construction/handyman.
1+ years of experience with power tools including a table saw, skilsaw, miter saw, jigsaw, and angle grinder.
Ability to work with awareness and clear communication in a production environment.
A professional work ethic and enthusiasm toward working with others.
A team player who is also able to work independently.
Instills and applies order and cleanliness to the work environment and pays careful attention to detail in the handling of equipment.
Abide by the rules and codes of conduct described in the NVO Handbook, Ranch Protocols, and the 360 S.O.P.
Able to temporarily relocate to Gerlach, Nevada for the entirety of the contract.
PREFERRED
1+ years in event production.
It is helpful if the candidate has previously been to Burning Man and/or is familiar with its culture.
First-Aid knowledge.
Experience working in remote wilderness and/or desert environments.
Experienced and comfortable with using 2 way radios.
A valid state issued Driver’s License and a good driving record.

COMPENSATION:
Individual compensation decisions are dependent on a variety of factors, including prior experience and geographical location. The anticipated pay rate for this position is $15.00 to $17.50 per hour .
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
Off-playa: Work is not primarily sedentary in nature. This position requires periods of heavy lifting, bending, kneeling, squatting, and climbing. This position will be physically demanding and requires individuals with good physical health and endurance. Work will include the need to find and meet with department representatives who may not be in the vicinity therefore this could include walking or using some form of transportation. Much of the work will be in outside weather conditions and will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles as well as possible extremes in temperature.
