Description
The City of Garden City is accepting applications for Gate Attendant at Lee Richardson Zoo. This position is responsible for monitoring drive-thru access to the zoo, collecting admission fees, representing zoo to visitors and relaying information to visitors and staff.
Examples of Duties
Open, monitor and secure 4th Street gate as it relates to access to zoo. Enforce zoo rules as needed (i.e. pets in the zoo).
Collect admission fees from drivers of vehicles entering/visiting the zoo in exchange for day pass. Complete gate receipt form. Turn monies in at the end of the day. Check identification and membership cards of FOLRZ (Friends of Lee Richardson Zoo) members entering in vehicles.
Inform guests of zoo policies, zoo hours, updates, and events as needed. GREET guests with a smile and welcoming attitude. REPRESENT the zoo professionally in all manners of communication. DISTRIBUTE zoo brochure to those needing one.
Communicate by radio to coordinate deliveries, answer questions, or relay information.
Track attendance using vehicle survey worksheet (number of vehicles, number of people in vehicles, state vehicles are from)
Offer FOLRZ membership information; take membership forms and money; turn forms and money in at end of day.
Answer main zoo phone lines when Finnup Center for Conservation Education is closed or when calls are not answered in 4 rings. Answer Operations line on weekends or after hours if not answered in 3-4 rings. Take and relay messages as necessary. Relay visitor comments to supervisor (customer comment cards).
Maintains booth as a neat and tidy work environment.
Follows all safety rules and regulations, policies and procedures. Attends safety meetings as deemed necessary by supervisor. Monitor developing weather as possible and relay pertinent information to staff.
Typical Qualifications
Requires a valid driver's license and a high school diploma or GED. Preferred qualifications include prior cash handling or cashier experience.
