Essential Job Functions:

The program interfaces closely with Galveston County Children’s Protective Services personnel, staff at the Galveston Children’s Advocacy Center, Law Enforcement personnel and the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office. The CAP provides formal consultation to regional CPS Staff in the East Texas Region and provides training for CPS and advocacy staff in a 19-county region. Local, state, and federal funding supports a substantial portion of the CAP activities.

  • Assessment of patients who are suspected victims of abuse or neglect, follow up as indicated, and assessment of victims placed in foster care.

  • Precepting of undergraduate medical students.

  • Precepting of house staff assigned to child maltreatment service.

  • Opportunity to participate in Urgent Care or Primary Care if desired.

  • Provide GME for surrounding physicians when requested.

  • Provide expert opinion to and training for community partners.

In addition, Pediatric Residents rotate through the service for 2 weeks as part of their required assignments. The program also offers medical student electives. The CAP will consult on cases admitted to the University Hospital service and to the Shriners Burn Hospital and to the Inpatient Pediatric service at UTMB’s League City Campus.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Candidate should be a graduate of an approved medical school, have completed an approved residency training program, and have a Texas Medical License without restrictions.

  • Board certified or board eligible through the American Board of Pediatrics or equivalent.

Salary:

Commensurate with experience.
