Job Description:

This position is covered by the Federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991. Individuals applying for this position, or incumbents of this position are required to hold a valid commercial driver’s license and passenger endorsement as a condition of employment. The act requires that all such individuals be subject to pre-employment & continuing post-employment drug & alcohol testing. Failure to comply with such testing is grounds for immediate dismissal from employment with the University of Florida.

Operates UF Transportation and Parking Services vehicles to provide transport for students, staff and visitors in a safe, efficient and courteous manner:

• Follows defined policies and procedures

• Utilizes department-provided equipment to communicate with dispatch, supervisors and fellow drivers while staying on schedule.

Perform required pre-trip and post trip vehicle inspections and record ridership on tablets, keep the interior of the vehicle clean and inform supervisor of all needed repairs and maintenance.

Assists with special event transportation and additional duties on an as-needed basis as directed by supervisor.

Aids riders in need of embarking and disembarking assistance, including proper use of hydraulic lift for wheelchair riders.

A criminal background and post offer health assessment will be conducted.

Position requires a current Florida Commercial Driver’s license Class A, B or C with passenger (P) endorsement.

Work hours: 4-10 work week from 6:00 am – 6:00 pm with one set day off each Monday-Friday.

Some flexibility may be required for Campus Connector requiring scheduled overtime and/or temporary schedule modifications to assist with coverage where other drivers may be unavailable. Additional flexibility may be required for other transportation services and special events requiring early or late appointments, weekend, holiday, and overnight travel or University events.

Expected Salary:

$17.50 - $18.50 hourly based on experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Completion of ninth grade and One (1) year of relevant experience. Classified Driver License (CDL) appropriate to the type of vehicle operated required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Possession of a commercial driver's license A, B or C with passenger (P) endorsement.

• Previous professional driving experience with transporting passengers preferred

• Skill in operating a large passenger vehicle in congested areas

• Knowledge and skill in operating a wheelchair lift equipped disabled shuttle

• Ability to maintain schedule of passenger’s pick-ups and drop offs

• Safe driving record

• Ability to recognize need for any vehicle maintenance

• Knowledge of campus parking and transportation rules and regulations

• Ability to communicate effectively in response to phoned requests

• Self-motivated and able to work effectively with limited supervision

• Ability to read and follow both written and verbal instructions, and communicate effectively

• Ability to use and operate Android and IPhone phones and tablets for scheduling purposes
