Job Description:

The Sumerlin Research Group in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Florida (UF), Gainesville, FL, invites applications for two Postdoctoral Research Associates in Polymer Chemistry. The successful candidates will work under the supervision of Prof. Brent Sumerlin (https://www.sumerlinlab.com/), focusing on the precision synthesis of polymers and functional polymer materials. These one-year appointments are renewable based on performance and funding availability.

Successful candidates will have a strong background in polymer chemistry and will be responsible for conducting research in synthesizing and characterizing well-defined polymers. The postdoctoral researchers will also be expected to mentor graduate students, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and assist in funding applications.

Expected Salary:

The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, and the compensation includes a full benefits package.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Polymer Science or a closely related area

  • Experience in molecular and material characterization, e.g., NMR, IR, TGA, TEM, GPC, DMA, and DSC;

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience with synthesizing and characterizing well-defined polymers.

  • The successful candidate should have a strong background in synthesis of polymers and small-molecules;

• A strong track record of publications

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to work independently and in a team

• Ability to take initiative, set priorities, time-manage, and resolve problem
