Job Description:
Responsible for utilizing Integrated Pest Management practices and procedures and applying appropriate control techniques within residential facilities
Determine and apply appropriate control techniques safely and effectively in public, residential, and departmental facilities; use of different pest management methods, such as trapping use of monitors and caulking in food handling areas and household areas, where pesticides present a hazard to occupant(s)
Collect and identify insect and vertebrate pests
Select, mix, and prepare proper amount and dilution of pesticides from concentrate according to label and regulatory guidelines (Chapters 482 of Florida Statutes).
Prepare hazardous pesticides and chemical wastes in appropriate containers for proper disposal.
Ensure proper knowledge of handling of hazardous materials, material safety data sheets (SDS), regulatory codes, compliance, and product equipment/advancements
Assist with evaluation of new pesticides and pest control techniques.
Execute department’s pest control of rodents by following Chapter 482 of the Florida Statutes for the regulation of professions and occupants with application of remedial measures for controlling rodents.
Assist with training staff members on techniques to resolving pest control issues in residence hall areas, as directed
Guide staff members on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) techniques, materials, sanitation, and structural modifications to assist with pest control
Collaborate with UF Entomology department to assist with identifying pest issues
Assist in maintaining inventory of materials, supplies, tools and/or equipment throughout area of responsibility; ensure organized workstations and storage closets with necessary materials as directed
Maintain, repair, and calibrate pest control equipment, such as foggers and sprayers
Maintain organization and sanitation in storage facility and service vehicles
Perform general cleaning duties after the completion of tasks both interior and exterior.
Responsible for general administrative functions
Input and process work order requests utilizing web-based work order management system.
Record detailed descriptions of work performed and notate preventative maintenance information
Interpret and ensure compliance with departmental, University, and state policies, guidelines, and other relevant regulations
Perform other duties as assigned, including special tasks or projects
Operates state vehicles
Use issued air purifying respirator; abide by the UF EH&S Respiratory Protection Program.
Expected Salary:
$17.00 Hourly
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma and one (1) year of appropriate experience. Appropriate vocational/ technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Must meet the requirements of Chapters 482 and 487, Florida Statutes.
Preferred Qualifications:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Limited structural license in general household pest
Basic knowledge in pest control management industry
Experience with using appropriate products or supplies, preparation, and calibrations of equipment
Knowledge of pest management and techniques such as how to select and use pesticides and various equipment
Knowledge of proper storage and disposal procedures for hazardous pesticides and chemical wastes
SKILLS
Demonstrated proficiency with computers and basic software applications (e.g. work order management systems, Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
Demonstrated communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to communicate with various levels of staff
Demonstrated attention to detail, professionalism, dependability, and timeliness
Demonstrated customer service and interpersonal skills
