Internal Controls Specialist/SOX Auditor

Our client in the King of Prussia, PA area is looking for an Internal Controls Specialist/SOX Auditor for a contract role. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the company's compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) regulations, performing SOX testing, and maintaining internal controls. The successful candidate will lead efforts to evaluate, improve, and test internal control processes to ensure financial accuracy, integrity, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities of Internal Controls Specialist/SOX Auditor

• Conduct SOX compliance audits and testing for internal control over financial reporting (ICFR).

• Design, implement, and assess the effectiveness of internal controls in accordance with SOX requirements.

• Collaborate with process owners to ensure timely completion of SOX documentation and testing across the organization.

• Evaluate and improve internal control processes, making recommendations to mitigate risks and enhance compliance.

• Perform detailed testing of key controls, identifying gaps or deficiencies, and coordinating remediation efforts.

• Prepare clear and comprehensive documentation of testing procedures, results, and control assessments.

• Provide support during external and internal audits by gathering and reviewing necessary documentation.

• Monitor changes in regulatory requirements and ensure the company’s internal controls remain compliant with SOX.

• Participate in annual risk assessments and provide input on risk mitigation strategies.

• Work closely with finance, IT, and operations teams to ensure compliance with SOX and other regulatory frameworks.

• Assist in training staff on internal controls, risk management, and SOX compliance procedures.

  Requirements

Skills/Qualifications of Internal Controls Specialist/SOX Auditor

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s or MBA preferred).

• Certification such as CPA, CISA, or CIA is strongly preferred.

• 5+years of relevant experience in SOX compliance, internal controls, and auditing.

• In-depth knowledge of SOX Section 404 requirements and COSO framework for internal controls.

• Proven ability to execute SOX testing and audit processes in a complex business environment.

• Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and audit management software.

• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with cross-functional teams and senior management.

• Ability to manage multiple projects and work under tight deadlines with a strong attention to detail.
