At BMC, the dedicated Purchasing Coordinator assists senior Buyers in a range of activities associated with purchasing goods, materials, supplies, and services on terms that are in the organization's best interest. This individual conducts research on potential suppliers & vendors, and other industry trends as a source of accurate and up-to-date information for purchasing activities. In turn, they are accountable for entering data into databases or other computerized systems to maintain up-to-date supplier and vendor information, track purchase and the status of orders and deliveries, and generate purchasing reports and statistics. They demonstrate excellent communication and organizational skills as, follow-up the status of purchase orders with vendors to ensure timely delivery, and communicate status of orders with internal customers.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Assess need, sources and procures stock materials and goods ensuring optimal cost, maximum margins and delivery times.

  • Regularly provides market intelligence and feedback; including new product options/developments, sourcing, pricing, competition and building related market developments to Market Leadership.

  • Issues requisitions based on agreed pricing.

  • Updating back order issues and sourcing alternatives.

  • Determining the method of procurement such as direct purchase or bid.

  • Obtains quotes, prepares purchase orders.

  • Discuss defective or unacceptable materials with inspection or quality control personnel, users, vendors, and others to determine source of trouble and take corrective action.

  • Review inquiries to determine needs and demand.

  • Approve invoices for payment if price doesn’t match the Purchase Order price.

  • Assists with problem solving i.e. dealing with incorrect invoicing, and shipping schedules, and take corrective action, if necessary.

  • Participate as a team player in all phases of the organization.

  • Open and responsive to change.

  • Comply with all Company policies and procedures.

  • Adhere to the Company’s safety standards and enforce safety regulations.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Required Skills

  • Minimum Education: High School Diploma

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

  • Exceptional Excel skills (mathematical-related tasks).

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and email software.

    Required Experience

  • Preferred Experience: 1 year with Purchasing background.
