Overview

The Software and Controls Automation Engineering Manager will combine their software and controls expertise with superior organizational and planning skills to ensure software and controls engineers have the tools, processes, and standards to support company and individual engineering growth objectives within needed time, budget, and customer expectations.

Responsibilities:

  • Champion the company's Mission, Vision, and Core Values by demonstrating behaviors that contribute to the company's success.

  • Evaluate and manage team capacity versus demand, and partner with delivery leaders to optimize resource needs.

  • Continually evaluate development and unit testing standards, working with team members to improve development and testing processes.

  • Ensure teams understand delivery objectives and use delivery management tools to complete projects on time and within budget.

  • Assist engineers with establishing optimal project-dependent architectural decisions.

  • Ensure effective, consistent, and timely inter- and intra-team communications and collaborations.

  • Manage and report on team output and quality productivity levels.

  • Prioritize, schedule, and detail work assignments.

  • Ensure technical drawings and specifications of systems meet company standards.

  • Manage day-to-day activities and performance of assigned personnel.

  • Supervise day-to-day controls, automation, and electrical systems design and integration to meet design quality, cost, and innovation objectives.

  • Champion collaboration with other departments such as project managers, quality assurance, and the production shop.

  • Represent the company professionally and accurately when interacting with customers, engineers, and project managers.

  • Continually evaluate team capabilities and develop coaching and development plans to help the team achieve personal and professional goals.

  • Provide training to the team on new processes, tools, and architectural design approaches.

  • Maintain accurate team labor reporting for internal and external projects.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field; expertise in a manufacturing engineering environment is preferred.

  • 10+ years of software and controls engineering management experience (or equivalent).

  • 5+ years’ engineering experience with controls, automation, and electrical systems design and integration.

  • 5+ years’ engineering experience with design automation equipment.

  • Knowledge of machine programming systems and methods.

  • Adept at managing software engineers using Procedural and Object-Oriented Programming Languages and data transaction systems such as SQL Server and Postgres.

  • Provide guidance and best practices for using controls logic and deploying SCADA telemetry protocols.

  • Experience establishing and managing software and control’s version control tools.

  • Proficiently read electrical prints and provide guidance on standards adherence to continuously improve quality.

  • Familiar with ISO, ANSI, CSA, and other country-specific electrical safety regulations as required.

  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • 5+ years of project engineering experience preferred.

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and fabrication techniques.

  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.

  • Understanding of Bill of Materials and MRP systems.

  • Experience using AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks.

  • Knowledge of statistical analysis tools.
