DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a talented Acoustic Systems Engineer to join our team in Engineering for our Power Systems Business in Fridley, MN.

Job Summary:

This entry level professional applied science position conducts experiments and analysis via commercial and in-house tools to determine acoustic performance of components and systems. The results from the experiments and analytical tools are used to determine the validity of the design to meet the customer requirements. Design recommendations are then provided as needed.

As an ACOUSTICS ENGINEER, this position focuses on acoustics in a Generator Set Manufacturing business. Your primary responsibility is to ensure the optimization and enhancement of product performance related to acoustic characteristics. You will play a crucial role in improving the overall quality and customer satisfaction of generator sets by effectively managing acoustic-related aspects throughout the product development lifecycle. Your role involves a combination of technical expertise, research, testing, and collaboration with cross-functional teams. You will also contribute to the development of Acoustic technical center for its readiness to handle new requirements on hydrogen fuel and any similar developments.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Acoustic Engineering: Apply principles of noise and acoustics to determine the behavior of components and systems, influencing design decisions with data-driven conclusions.

  • Statistical Analysis: Utilize statistical methods to analyze data, model relationships, and make informed decisions through rigorous analysis.

  • Product Testing: Conduct function-based testing of products, ensuring operational data is accurately recorded and analyzed to meet verification and validation plans.

  • Simulation and Analysis: Use modeling and simulation to predict product function capabilities and impact design decisions at various system levels.

  • Test System Design: Design and integrate test systems based on specifications, ensuring lab equipment meets requirements and supports infrastructure.

  • Problem Solving: Implement a customer-centric problem-solving process, identifying root causes and developing robust solutions to prevent reoccurrence.

  • Collaboration: Build partnerships and work collaboratively to achieve shared objectives and drive organizational success.

  • Effective Communication: Develop and deliver communications that address the unique needs of different audiences, enhancing stakeholder engagement.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To be successful in this role, you will need the following:

  • Problem Investigation: Ability to investigate acoustic-related issues, understand the underlying mechanisms, and recommend and document effective solutions.

  • Process Execution: Proficiency in executing established processes documented in work instructions, essential for Engineering Standard Work and Design Validation Plans.

  • Tool Utilization: Experience with standardized tools and processes to support Product Design and Validation for high-confidence decision-making.

  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Capability to obtain and integrate input from Product Development, Validation, Design, and Functional Discipline groups for key acoustic performance parameters.

  • Technical Decision Making: Use of formal training in Noise, Acoustics, Vibration, and Digital Signal Processing to make informed design decisions based on analysis and test results.

  • Complex Problem Ownership: Ownership of problem resolution for components or systems with increasing complexity and technical ambiguity as experience is gained.

  • Team Contribution: Ability to contribute effectively toward team goals and exhibit influence within a work group while developing critical competencies.

  • Technical Proficiency: A mix of experience with tools such as MS Office, Matlab, LabVIEW, nCode, Siemens Test.Lab, and Windows operating systems, especially for entry-level or early career professionals.

*Education, Licenses, Certifications: *

  • College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required. 

  • Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.

  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2-3 years of experience in acoustic analysis, testing, and optimization.

  • Proficiency in using acoustic measurement equipment and software such as Siemens Test.Lab or similar tools.

  • Knowledge of ISO 3744 and ISO 3745 standards for noise measurement and testing.

Preferred Skills, Education, or Experience:

  • Experience in experimental acoustics, including setup and execution of acoustic measurements, data acquisition, and analysis.

  • Familiarity with Matlab, Simcenter 3D, VA-One, and SIDLAB.

  • Skills in troubleshooting noise and vibroacoustic problems with mechanical systems as related to product development.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary range: $76,000.00 - 114,000.0

Please note that the salary range provided is a good faith estimate on the applicable range. The final salary offer will be determined after considering relevant factors, including a candidate’s qualifications and experience, where appropriate.
