Job Purpose and Impact

The Laboratory Supervisor will supervise a team to develop and monitor laboratory processes, including monitoring through indicators and ensure the application and maintenance of the quality system and safety conditions. In this role, you will evaluate and approve the results generated by the laboratory team and you will also evaluate the needs for maintenance of equipment and stocks of reagents and consumables and the organization and control of the laboratory budget.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop and monitor laboratory processes to ensure the application and maintenance of the quality product and process verification systems.

  • Execute the laboratory's quality management system and follow up on nonconformities by quality of results.

  • Contact with internal and external clients guaranteeing the flow of information with the laboratory team including the quality and production team, the formulation and commercial areas and other clients.

  • Review processes to ensure compliance and report non-compliance to laboratory management along with developing and implementing corrective action plans.

  • Participate, and at times lead multidisciplinary team investigations regarding food safety incidents and exceeded microbiological thresholds.

  • Reassess and update laboratory procedures to ensure they are kept up to date in compliance with all applicable regulations and requirements.

  • Support and manage the laboratory food safety and quality activities within multiple departments across the complex.

  • Responsible for personnel decisions related to hiring, performance and disciplinary actions for your direct reports. You will also spend time completing the same tasks as employees on your team.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field OR equivalent experience

  • Minimum one year of directly related work experience

  • Ability to create basic work instructions and standard operating procedures related to lab processes

  • Able and willing to work Saturdays as required

  • Able and willing to be on call as required

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of supervisory experience

  • Experience in laboratory, food safety, food manufacturing, auditing, regulatory or related field

  • Previous project management experience with conducting root cause analysis related to food safety issues

  • Ability to self-direct and troubleshoot through conflicts with minimal guidance, while using best judgement on when to notify management for additional guidance for more critical conflicts

  • Practical knowledge performing risk assessments, verification and validation activities related in food safety

  • Practical knowledge of plant manufacturing processes and operations.

  • Experience with participation and preparation of BRC third party auditing standards.

Position Information

Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.

Compensation

The expected salary for this position is $76,000 - $86,000. This position is eligible for a discretionary incentive award. The incentive award amount is dependent upon company performance and your personal performance.
