Robert Half Payroll Supervisor in Fremont, California

Description

We are looking for a seasoned and detail-oriented Payroll Supervisor to lead our in-house team and ensure accurate and timely processing of union payroll for our construction projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all aspects of in-house payroll processing for union employees, adhering to all relevant union contracts and prevailing wage laws.

  • Supervise and lead a team of payroll specialists, providing coaching, mentoring, and performance management.

  • Manage payroll budgets and ensure efficient use of payroll resources.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain effective payroll procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance.

  • Train payroll staff on new procedures, union contracts, and prevailing wage regulations.

  • Analyze and resolve complex payroll issues, discrepancies, and employee inquiries.

  • Prepare and submit all required union reports, including health and welfare, pension, and apprenticeship funds.

  • Liaise with union representatives to address concerns and ensure compliance with union agreements.

  • Review and approve payroll calculations, deductions, and benefits before final processing.

  • Ensure timely and accurate distribution of paychecks to employees.

  • Manage payroll tax deposits to federal, state, and local authorities.

  • File all required payroll tax reports, including 941s and W-2s.

  • Oversee payroll audits from federal, state, and local agencies, as well as union benefit funds.

  • Maintain a strong understanding of relevant federal and state labor laws, including the Davis-Bacon Act and Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

  • Stay up-to-date on changes to union contracts, prevailing wage rates, and payroll tax regulations.

  • Work collaboratively with project managers, superintendents, and other departments to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.

    Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience in construction payroll, with a strong focus on union payroll processing.

  • Proven supervisory experience in a payroll environment.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of union contracts, prevailing wage laws, fringe benefit calculations, and federal/state payroll tax regulations.

  • Experience using internal payroll systems is a plus.

  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and time management skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.

  • Ability to work independently, manage workload, and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
