UL, LLC Brand Protection Manager in Northbrook, Illinois

The Brand Protection Manager (BPM) will investigate and undertake enforcement actions against persons and organizations that are involved in any points of the whole supply chain of products bearing counterfeit UL Solutions Marks. The position is responsible for developing investigative plans, gathering, and evaluating facts, conducting investigative interviews, managing service providers and contractors, writing investigative reports, and supporting the global brand protection mandate. The role calls for extensive interface with law enforcement agencies and cultivating strong operational partnerships. The BPM is expected to resolve complicated and sensitive matters in an efficient and effective manner. Other duties include the preparation and delivery of training to internal and external audiences.

  • Manages brand protection professional staff, investigations, and enforcement actions in designated area

  • Is accountable for performance of team and influences others to adopt different points of view

  • Manage and monitor outside service providers and contractors

  • Prepares investigative plans and reports to support enforcement and legal actions

  • Obtains and manages evidence to support administrative, civil, and criminal actions

  • Provide affidavits, victim impact statements and testimony to support legal proceedings

  • Assist in building and maintaining relationships with various UL Solutions Customer Operating Units

  • Prepare and provide training material and presentations to a variety of audiences

  • Build and maintain excellent partnerships with public and private sector organizations

  • Provides technical guidance to employees and customers

  • Positively impacts department’s ability to achieve ongoing service requirements and objectives

  • Support problem solving, process improvement, projects, and strategic planning initiatives

  • Carefully manage and monitor expenses

  • Performs other duties as directed

  • A minimum of five years’ experience managing brand protection investigations & enforcement actions

  • University Degree at the bachelor’s level preferred

  • Strong working knowledge of law enforcement and customs procedures

  • Demonstrated first-hand experience working directly with law enforcement authorities

  • Good working knowledge of intellectual property laws in the respective region

  • Strong investigative skills with a proven ability of managing complex investigations

  • Strong experience working with and managing external service providers

  • Highly organized, analytical, and detail-oriented with superior time management skills

  • Possess and established network of contacts within relevant law enforcement agencies

  • Demonstrated ability to write concise and factual investigative reports

  • Proven ability to recognize and evaluate facts and objectively analyze situations

  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets

  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills and Chinese language is an asset
