Stantec has an immediate need for a Senior Civil Engineer in our Environmental Services group. Your Key Responsibilities
Work under minimal supervision with broad guidelines, to assign, review, and evaluate the performance of new project orders; directing interdisciplinary project teams as needed to ensure project needs are met.
Strong project leadership to help ensure conformance with Stantec’s Project Management Framework (PMF).
Ensure strict compliance with contractual requirements.
Coordinate with Stantec leadership and client contacts routinely to explore future opportunities, budget planning, and staff resourcing needs.
Primary responsibility for the development of fee proposals for a variety of sizes and complexities, working with other task managers as needed to address all technical disciplines.
Oversee the design and evaluation of site civil development projects.
Lead urban drainage design efforts.
Assist with Renewable Energy planning and design.
Lead multidisciplinary Federal pursuits / projects.
Assist with coastal storm risk management design.
Assist in the development of stormwater master plans.
Assist with inspection and plan review services.
Assist with field assessments for the project types described above.
Conduct peer and quality reviews on all applicable projects.
Other duties or responsibilities as assigned by management.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Must have a high attention to detail, strength in time management and organizational skills, and good written and oral communication.
Strong project management credentials, including but not limited to scoping, establishing schedules, project plan development, and routine tracking/reporting throughout project implementation.
Proven capabilities / expertise in civil planning and design in Virginia (including but not limited to:
Site design, utilities layout / design, resilience planning, renewable energy, or heavy civil infrastructure for coastal storm risk management).
Knowledge of ecosystem restoration practices, crediting methods, and design preferred.
Knowledge of Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) design manuals, procedures, and contracting requirements preferred.
Knowledge of Federal pursuits / projects including Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and the Federal specification process preferred.
Skill in Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Project).
Good relationships with local, state, or federal agency staff in Hampton Roads preferred.
Ability to either work out of Stantec’s Virginia Beach, Richmond, or Williamsburg office or commute to one of the preferred offices a minimum of two (2) days per week (expectations may be adjusted due to the on-going pandemic).
Ability to travel within Virginia on a daily basis on short notice.
Ability to communicate in a professional and positive manner, both in writing and in person, with clients, employees and the general public.
Ability to present to both small and large groups on a wide range of projects.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Ability to walk 2-4 miles per day in rough terrain.
Ability to work in a highly automated design office environment.
Must have a good driving record and valid driver’s license.
Education and Experience
Bachelor of Science (minimum) in Civil, Water Resources, Biological Systems, Environmental Engineering, or other closely related degree required. Masters preferred.
Minimum of 8 years prior experience in a civil engineering-related role preferred.
Minimum of 2 years prior experience with large project or contract management responsibilities required.
Professional Licensure (P.E.) required.
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.
Virginia DEQ Dual Combined Administrator certification preferred.
