Job Description

AECOM is looking for a Senior Biologist/Ecologist who is ready to take the next step in their career. An ideal candidate will grow and lead an ecology group out of the AECOM Franklin Office; however, our team is open to a remote position in Tennessee.

The ideal candidate will be afforded the following:

  • Join a new Environmental & Planning group in Tennessee with extensive room for growth.

  • Freedom to grow their own team and ecology services to support our existing environmental services team.

  • Join an established and defined business structure, wide-ranging BD/Proposal resources to expand the business.

The primary job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Exhibiting personal safety leadership in the oversight and execution of all work.

  • Development and management of client-facing relationships.

  • Providing leadership and project manager expertise in support of projects focused on wetland delineations, stream identifications, and threatened and endangered species surveys in the Southeast Region.

  • Accountability for project performance and compliance with project delivery expectations.

  • Demonstrating creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in anticipating and solving both routine and unusual project delivery and technical problems.

  • Regularly communicate with regulators, clients, and other AECOM technical staff/project managers.

  • Lead project management projects in the following areas:

  • Educate, mentor, and lead younger staff.

  • Identify project management opportunities, prepare proposals, manage clients.

  • Provide technical and regulatory expertise.

  • Conduct/lead field surveys.

  • Develop technical reports, and permit applications.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biological, Environmental Sciences, or a related life sciences field or demonstrated equivalency or MS and a year or two less experience.

  • 8+ years of experience with wetland delineations, stream identification, Stream Quantification Tool (SQT), environmental permitting, protected species surveys, and previous experience in the Southeast U.S.

  • US Citizenship is required due to contract requirements.

  • Valid Driver’s License and as a condition of employment must be able to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Biological or Environmental Sciences.

  • 10+ years of experience with wetland delineations, stream identification, Stream Quantification Tool (SQT), environmental permitting, protected species surveys, and previous experience in the Southeast U.S.

  • Tennessee Qualified Hydraulic Professional Certified (TN-QHP).

  • Certified Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS).

  • Task lead and/or project management experience.

  • Business development and client management experience.

  • Demonstrated successful team leadership and management with a good understanding of safety policies/procedures, quality, and risk management concepts.

  • Data collection and GIS experience and/or knowledge.

  • Understanding of federal regulations, and experience in regulatory coordination, including with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

  • Understanding of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for clients, staff, and regulatory personnel.

  • Experience with technical writing, preparing technical reports, and permit applications.

  • Ability to work independently and also be able to develop and train a junior team.

  • Experience with transportation projects and/or the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT).

  • Understanding state regulations, and coordination experience with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC).

  • Experience with mitigation, stream restoration, or construction monitoring.

  • Threatened & Endangered species surveys.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $70,000.00 - $120,000.00.
