JOB SUMMARY A maintenance electrical controls technician role is one that installs, maintains, and repairs the instrumentation, wiring and automation of electrical systems. The position also works to eliminate failures resulting in downtime having direct impact on the plants the overall available operating systems. The role is a mixture of supporting existing production equipment and executing assigned project work as business needs require. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Comply with Westlake Safety Policies and Procedures Regular attendance, timeliness, and scheduling flexibility Provide safety leadership in promoting and creating a zero-injury safety culture Troubleshoot, repair, problem-solve, and maintain all electrical control problems for all manufacturing equipment Troubleshoot machine malfunctions using electronic and PLC techniques Perform routine, emergency, and preventative maintenance on all electrical equipment/parts Study equipment manuals to develop audit items and preventative maintenance schedule Make preventative maintenance checks and inspections as required and on time Identify, research, prepare and present solutions to control problems and continuous improvement projects Evaluate equipment malfunctions with a sense of urgency to minimize downtime Install, replace, or change machine parts and attachments, according to production specifications Supports Engineering projects involving installation, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of new equipment Works independently with limited supervision to meet project requirements Fabricates and installs control and power panels Ensure compliance with all electrical codes and safety standards Maintain accurate documentation of all electrical maintenance work performed Advanced understanding and working knowledge of PLC-based control products, VFD and DC Motor Controllers, NFPA 70 Electrical Code, electrical safety, and schematics/drawings Modify equipment as necessary to improve safety, quality, productivity, and reliability Communicate professionally with plant personnel as to the important repair steps taken, parts ordered, and estimated time to complete the repairs or projects Maintain proper housekeeping expectations for work area, equipment and tools KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Must be able to work well in a team environment Must be able to read, write, and speak English Must be able to understand verbal and written instructions Must possess strong communication and organizational skills Must have to ability to do basic mathematical calculations Must have the ability to multi-task Must have strong internal and external customer service skills Must be able to problem solve and use basic trouble shooting skills Must be able to work independently and use good judgment Ability to maintain attention to detail Ability to hear audible noises Ability to distinguish basic colors COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE COMPENTENCIES The employee must be able to: Operate a computer or other keyboard instrument Utilizes Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) Software development, including HMI Operate in an SAP environment EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE The employee should have the following: High school diploma or equivalent is required Three or more years of maintenance work in an industrial electrical maintenance position PLC experience, preferable Allen Bradley Strong electrical knowledge Have mechanical aptitude that compliments electrical capabilities Demonstrated fault finding experience Proficient in reading blueprints and schematics ESSENTIAL PH
