Description:

A Buyer I is an entry level position affording an opportunity to gain knowledge and work experience. Under guidance and direction, a Buyer I will assume responsibility for the sourcing and purchase of goods and material within assigned product lines, insuring that quality products are purchased at competitive prices and delivered in a timely manner to meet customer needs. While gaining knowledge and experience, a Buyer I will gradually gain greater latitude for exercising independent judgement and discretion.

Manage the sourcing, negotiation and purchase of materials, equipment and goods within assigned product lines using multiple vendors to insure the best quality, terms and conditions are obtained.

Monitor utilization of stock items to insure that sufficient inventory is maintained to meet projected customer demand, taking into consideration potential changes in customer base, product utilization, seasonal usage, weather conditions, market conditions, potential price adjustments as well as lead-lag time for delivery.

Confer and works closely with sales staff to keep abreast of customer needs and coordinate the timely delivery of product and services.

Develop strategic relationship with vendors to strengthen and maintain cooperative working relationships, facilitate problem resolution; stays current with trends, technologies and new products while maintaining product flow in times of critical shortage.

Researches potential new vendors evaluating them based on product quality, pricing, service, warranty and ability to deliver quantities required within time frames required to meet customer needs. When applicable, insures that the vendor has a valid food safety certificate.

Seeks sources for new and innovative products and specialty items using attained knowledge.

Maintain strong internal working relationships with warehouse and trucking divisions to ensure accurate and timely delivery to customers

General understanding of general business operation needs, goals and objectives.

Sound organizational skills and the ability to coordinate and prioritize work.

Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the use of office technology including MS Office and the ability to become proficient with specialty software.

Strong analytic and reasoning skills as well as the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Exhibit a high degree of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations with poise tact and diplomacy, including the ability to work successfully as an integral member of a team people from diverse cultures, heritages, ages and genders.

Effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment.

Superior work habits including a willingness to work the hours necessary to complete assigned work and projects, especially when important deadlines cause greater than normal pressure.

Ability to work independently as well as an integral part of a team and willingly take on new tasks.

Two or more years of undergraduate education at an accredited community college or university with course work in business, marketing, accounting or other relevant field and 2 or more years of general work experience, preferably in an office environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
