ProMedica Health System Maintenance Mechanic - Plant Operations - Full Time - Days in Fostoria, Ohio

Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine-to-skilled maintenance duties in the operation, alteration and corrective maintenance of building facilities, equipment, and utility systems. Performs a variety of scheduled and unscheduled mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and other related duties with priority given to patient comfort and safety. Requires sound judgment and rapid decision-making abilities during system failures to avoid injury to persons or damage to equipment. This worker may be required to perform any or all of the job duties listed below.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

All duties listed below are essential unless noted otherwise

  1. Under supervision, performs services in (but is not limited to) the following areas: electrical, mechanical, plumbing, pneumatic, medical gas systems, furniture, fixtures, structures, steam, water, waste, HVAC, electronic, alarms, data processing, emergency, and communications equipment or systems. Under limited supervision, performs a variety of project services and tasks which involve general labor such as installation and demolition as outlined below:

a. Performs snow removal, lawn services and other ground maintenance tasks. May be required to perform security services.

b. Repairs or replaces existing plumbing components such as flush valves, PVC pipe fittings, plugs, traps, faucets, and valves. Operates drain cleaning equipment.

c. Troubleshoots problems, orders proper parts, and performs repairs.

d. Installs and repairs drywall in metal-stud applications.

e. Repairs or replaces existing ductwork.

f. Disassembles, troubleshoots, and repairs or adjusts mechanical equipment in accordance with manufacturer service literature.

g. Repairs or replaces components in systems such as Nurse Call, Dictation, and various appliances.

h. Contacts manufacturers for technical assistance when needed and places orders for service and/or repair.

i. Utility Management System interactions, Data Input of New Equipment, Write, Schedule, and Generate PM's and Generate Equipment History reports.

j. Hear, read, and comprehend technical instructions and basic mathematical computation. Operate hand and/or power tools.

k. Read and interpret schematics.

  1. Repairs, installs, replaces, and tests electrical circuits, and other systems, equipment and appliances using appropriate tools and testing instruments. Repairs or replaces existing electrical components such as receptacles, switches, lights, and ballasts.

  2. Gathers data, reports, and makes recommendations for remedial action on systems as needed.

  3. Inspects and performs safety tests on systems and equipment. Inspects refrigeration, cooling, air conditioning and other systems and equipment to ensure all are functioning properly.

  4. Monitors and inspects work to ensure compliance with codes and regulations. Reports safety and/or fire hazards or security violations.

  5. Conducts scheduled rounds of Plant Systems, documenting and making appropriate adjustments as required to maintain proper temperature, pressure, etc. Notifies appropriate personnel when the need arises.

  6. Operates a variety of equipment such as hand tools, lap top computers and diagnostic hardware to perform work.

  7. This role requires mandatory attendance to trainings and ability pass associated tests. Will be required to use computerized work order systems. On Call hours may be required on an as needed basis. Education: High School diploma or equivalent; Trade school diploma or degree from technical school.

Skills: Must have working knowledge of electricity, fire safety codes, refrigeration, and air conditioning codes.

Years of Experience: 1-2 years previous experience in similar positions in an institutional setting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

License: Licensed/Certified in one or more trades or disciplines.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Personal Protective Equipment: Eye and face equipment, respirator with medical clearance.

Physical Demands: Works in precarious or high locations, ladders/scaffolding, etc. Possible exposure to electrical/mechanical/power equipment hazards. Must be able to move, lift or carry materials or equipment weighing up to 10 pounds up to 55% of the time; 20 pounds 10% of the time. Must be able to see, hear, and move intermittently, or use prosthetics that will enable you to function adequately to assure that the requirement of this position can be fully met. Frequent reaching/stooping/bending/kneeling/crouching/prolonged standing/walking. Possible exposure to Confined Spaces and low voltages. Must be able to perform and understand Lock out Tag out procedures. Handles crisis or emergency situations and responds to appropriate building codes.
