Job Description

The Associated Director, Business Strategy & Operations reports to the Senior Director, US Commercial Strategy & Operations Lead, and serves as a key business partner to the Oncology team and broader cross-functional Oncology Leadership Team (OLT). This role acts as a 'linking pin' between multiple functions, drives tactical and strategic projects, provides analytical and operational insights, and ensures coordinated communications across functions aligned with the One Oncology strategic priorities and direction. Additionally, you will act as a steward of the Oncology BU culture as we build a franchise where our teammates are engaged and inspired.

The successful candidate will have a strong track record of cross-functional project leadership and strategic & operational work experience across various functions, levels, and therapeutic areas in the pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industry. In addition, they have the proven ability to manage complex and ambiguous projects effectively, influence stakeholders without direct authority, effectively network across the organization, and communicate with all levels within a very dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Driving business results and strategic initiatives through overall BU coordination, operational rigor, tracking of franchise KPIs, cross-functional/leadership alignment, and partnership.

  • Identify opportunities and drive franchise efforts to streamline, prioritize, and focus organizational efforts to enhance productivity/efficiency while accelerating execution—support project management of these initiatives aligned with US Oncology and US Commercial Goals.

  • Coordinate topical discussions for Oncology Commercial leadership and the OLT, as well as drive follow-up actions/communications

  • Develop and maintain detailed work plans on key initiatives, including identifying project tasks, clear milestones, and assignments of work project responsibilities, schedules, plans, resources, and status reports.

  • Support capability-building efforts across the Oncology franchise by identifying and championing innovative ideas from internal and external sources.

  • Partner with Oncology leadership, Public Affairs, and HR on internal & external communication strategies and preparation/content for impactful presentations. This includes QBR/business updates, leadership meetings, national and mid-year meetings, project/initiative presentations, all-hands presentations, follow-up communications, and online/social media communications.

  • Demonstrated outstanding cross-functional collaborator and business partner, with a strong history of influencing without authority and directly contributing to teams to achieve shared overall objectives

  • Experience driving large, complex initiatives from framing the problem to conducting research/analysis, to building the business and operational plans, to strong execution and pull-through

  • Strong leadership and communication skills across functions and levels of leadership; comfort in business and technical discussions.

  • Self-starter with strong emotional intelligence, operational rigor, attention to detail, and project management capabilities who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative, and innovative high-growth environment

  • Strong enterprise thinking and approach

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and Ten Years' Experience

OR

Masters' Degree and Eight Years' Experience

OR

PhD and Two Years' Experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant experience in marketing within the commercial, finance, or consultancy

  • A Master of Business Administration or other comparable advanced degree is preferred.

  • 8+ years of growing responsibility with broad exposure to multiple functions

  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, especially PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.

  • Willingness to travel as needed (up to 50% in coordination with Onc BU Head)

  • A marketing background is highly preferred, and exposure to marketing and analytics is required; prior sales and oncology experience is preferred.

The salary range for this position is: $177,905.00 - $230,230.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
