Ultrasonic Inspector - 2nd shift

Description

Work Performed:

  • Inspects all types of metal alloy materials, castings, forgings and machined parts for defects, flaws and other internal discontinuities by means of operation of equipment, performance and interpretation by ultrasonic methods.

  • Determines quality of materials and parts by correlation of flaw indication with actual geometry, size and position.

  • Analyzes factors influencing flaw indications.

  • Sets up, calibrates and operates ultrasonic testing and inspection equipment.

  • Adjusts controls, selects proper size and type of transducers, establishes proper frequency and inspects by immersion scanning or contact scanning method.

  • Determines type of defects found and determines depth, angulation and size of defect and form and condition of material.

  • Required to establish effective ultrasonic inspection techniques and interpret indications and readings shown on oscilloscope or equivalent device in an accurate and dependable manner to obtain optimum results of ultrasonic testing inspection.

  • Rejects all work, which fails to meet required standards or specifications.

  • May be required to use portable equipment, work aids, devise holding devices and work aids necessary in the performance of this job and direct the activities of other inspectors or operators in ultrasonic inspection or testing.

  • Maintains adequate and proper records and prepares reports as required.

  • Must pass required Armed Services Tests for ultrasonic equipment operation and inspection.

Tools & Equipment Used:

All types of ultrasonic testing and inspection machines and equipment, inspector’s hand and marking tools, and a variety of special equipment necessary to performed required work.

Qualifications

Experience & Other Requirements:

  • Three years ultrasonic inspection and testing experience.

  • Must pass Armed Services Tests for ultrasonic equipment operation and inspection.
