Job Description

The Spanish Translator, under direction, serves as a translator for various University events in assigned language. Interprets both verbal and written English communications. May be asked to accompany teams to Tarleton Fort Worth locations or other locations such as Fort Worth school districts. Work hours vary depending on time of year, number of events, and availability of other interpreters.

Position is temporary based on the needs of the University with a maximum of 19 work hours per week. There are two open positions for this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides well-spoken and accurate translations of information from English to assigned language that is understood by cross-cultural speakers of the focus language.

  • Adopts translations to be understood uniformly by different groups of individuals from around the world.

  • Edits and revises information prepared by others to ensure proper grammar and tone for target audiences.

  • Provides both verbal and non-verbal interpretation of material between English speakers and others using the service.

  • Transmits information accurately between English-speaking subject matter experts and audiences.

  • Works with technology to create engaging experience for participants.

  • Serves as University representatives at Fort Worth events to meet, greet, welcome, and build relationships with guests in need of translation services; requires outstanding customer services skills.

  • Availability to serves at various Fort Worth events ranging from Orientations, Special University celebrations such as Family Weekend, Graduations, or Homecoming, assists with various initiatives such as recruitment visits to various schools and family nights in specified languages.

  • Completes any assigned or required trainings and meetings.

  • Accompanies teams to Tarleton Fort Worth locations or other locations such as Fort Worth school districts.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Language fluency in both English and Spanish; excellent verbal and written communication skills, in both languages.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely.

  • Team-focused.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Adhere to Tarleton State University’s policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrate adaptability to needs of various settings and events.
