Fort Wayne Metals Research Products Corp Spooling - ABH 1st Shift - 704921743 in Fort Wayne, Indiana

The main responsibility of a Spooler is to set up and operate various types of re-spooling resources, eddy current testing equipment, and cleaning resources, as applicable for the equipment in assigned building, to ensure production pool is providing external and internal customers the correct material, quality material, as well as appropriate spool footage and spool weights.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Read and understand production order to identify work priority and requirements to correctly run job for re-spooling, eddy current testing and/or cleaning processes; this varies based on the equipment in the facility to which the employee is assigned.
  • Determine the correct spool, special instructions, particular attachments and resources needed to properly run supply wire on re-spooling equipment. Set up and monitor re-spooling equipment. Re-spool material onto multiple spools and splits to meet the required footage, as necessary. Run even level winds at all times by visual observation and constant hand and number adjustments to ensure that wire is winding in straight line from side to side. If not, making resource adjustments or re-spooling must be done.
  • Make labels using accurate information and pack material correctly.
  • Prepare and clean wire by operating the Hot Alkaline Cleaners or Ultrasonic Cleaners according to production orders to meet internal and external customer specifications, as applicable.
  • Complete non-destructive testing to look for variations in the electrical conductivity and the magnetic permeability of the wire through the eddy current test method. Identify and mark defects.
  • Visually inspect wire coming off of resources, acting as first line inspection, to ensure the quality of product. Take action for wire not meeting quality expectations, as necessary.
  • Keep assigned work and storage areas clean and organized.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 1 year of previous manufacturing experience is preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Fast -paced production environment.
  • Work hours consist of 40 hours per week.
  • Overtime may sometimes be necessary.
  • Appropriate PPE must be worn where posted and required.
  • Exposure to fluctuating temperatures may occur.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Average weights in production range from 10-25 lbs. Maximum weights may exceed 75-80 lbs. on occasion.
  • May be required to perform work above shoulder height.
  • Frequent bending, twisting, lifting, and squatting.
  • Must be able to access all areas of operation.
  • Standing/walking most of shift.
  • Visual Acuity .
