SUMMARY Working under the direction of the Pre-School/Youth Site Supervisor, incumbent conducts Pre-School/Youth programs. The incumbent is expected to exercise good judgment, independence, initiative, and professional expertise in conducting day-to-day operations. All work duties and activities must be performed in accordance with the City safety rules and operating regulations, policies and procedures as well as federal, state, and local regulations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the ability to interact with the public, City incumbents, and outside agencies with patience, tact, respect, and professionalism and the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Accepts Pre-School and Youth site assignments. Will have to switch sites and activities;
  • Reports directly to Pre-School/Youth Site Supervisor;
  • Attends June In-Service Training Orientation. This includes seasonal employee training (Blood Borne Pathogens (BBP), Child Protection Awareness (SCAN), General Safety Training, etc.), Coaches Training, and Program Content;
  • Attends all weekly staff meetings;
  • Assists in organizing, teaching, supervising, and evaluating weekly activities in games, crafts, and recreational sports classes according to the area you are assigned. Must follow pre-set themes;
  • Encourages and motivates children to attend on a regular basis;
  • Meets with Preschool/Youth Site Supervisor to plan daily activities;
  • Is Responsible for weekly lesson plans to be completed two weeks prior to activity to be turned into Pre-School/Youth Coordinator or Supervisor;
  • Is accountable for recording accurate daily attendance reports for each sport, turns in weekly at staff meetings;
  • Is responsible for collecting and compiling program evaluations at end of season;
  • Is responsible for each participant\'s safety during the time they are participating and maintaining discipline among participants;
  • Is responsible for equipment and supplies to be at the program site as well as maintained and used properly, turns in any damaged equipment. Lost or damaged equipment due to staff negligence will be replaced with same quality by the staff person(s) responsible for the loss;
  • Assists in other areas as needed;
  • Participates in a final personnel evaluation;
  • Reports and documents any problems with children and adults to the Program Facility Coordinator Pre-School/Youth Coordinator or Supervisor;
  • Contributes to the weekly summary of the weeks activities to be turned in at weekly staff meetings;
  • Wears Park Department Pre-School/Youth Staff T-shirt at all times during working hours and complies with dress code for the summer program;
  • Submits timecards to Pre-School/Youth Site Supervisor;
  • Reports irregularities and abnormal conditions on the work site;
  • Arrives at site one half hour before scheduled start time and 15 minutes after last class.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS Performs duties in accordance with City\'s safety rules and operating regulations and practices. PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS The incumbent is r sponsible to manage their performance in accordance with this job description and the performance expectations provided to them by management. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Staff will supervise all children participating in activities.
