Weekend Network Systems Operator

Level: Full-time Pay Class 5 Division/Department: Information Technology Report To: IT Network Operations Manager

We are seeking a skilled and vigilant Network Systems Operator to join our IT team. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining our corporate IT systems ensuring optimal performance. The role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to respond quickly to any issues that may arise. Responsibilities:

  • System Monitoring: Continuously monitor network performance, server health, system errors via NOC monitoring dashboards to identify and resolve issues promptly.

  • Incident Response: Respond to and troubleshoot network outages, performance degradation, and as applicable security threats using documentation and runbooks. Escalate complex system issues to senior IT on-call staff or management as necessary.

  • Respond to alerts and/or errors including responding and entry into Mainframe screens.

  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation on shifts for cross training and troubleshooting including using a ticketing tracking system.

  • Communication: Collaborate with IT team members to coordinate network-related activities and share information on current network status and potential issues.

  • Technical Support: Provide first-level technical support to internal users, addressing connectivity and performance related inquiries.

  • Support and maintain corporate and RSC printers.

  • Assist with Desktop provisioning and setup.

  • Compliance and Best Practices: Ensure adherence to IT policies, compliance standards, and best practices in network management.

  • Assist with training as needed for cross functional coverage and new team members.

    TECHNICAL ATTRIBUTES & CHARACTERISTICS Required

  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot system monitoring in a timely and effective way.

  • Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Availability: Willingness to work various shifts, such as nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Proven experience or training in network operations or similar role within IT

Preferred

  • Education: Bachelor's degree or Associates degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Experience: Experience in network operations, system administration, or a similar role.

  • Certifications: Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CCNA, or equivalent.

  • Hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic, and network analytics tools.

  • General knowledge of network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, Internet Service Providers, telephony and VPNs.

  • Familiarity with Windows server environments.

  • Familiarity with Cloud systems and technologies.

  • Understanding of network security best practices and protocols (e.g. IPSEC, BGP, 802.11, QoS).

  • Ability to learn and operate a mainframe system.
