Description

This position is skilled work in maintenance and repair of drawbridges and stationary bridges with the Department of Transportation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintain drawbridges and stationary bridges.

  • Repair, install, and maintain guardrails and handrails.

  • Operate pickup and dump trucks, tractors with post driver, auger, box blade, and front-end loader.

  • Inspect drawbridge gears, bearings, and mechanical bridge parts to clean, adjust, and lubricate as necessary.

  • Install or repair traffic safety attenuator systems.

  • Transport a barge using wide load permits and maneuvering around the bridge structures performing repair from the water line.

  • Use of hand and power tools.

  • Set up safe work zones.

  • Welding repairs on bridges, aluminum railing, and for other departments as needed.

  • Form and pour concrete, and do flat concrete work.

Education, Experience, Licensing

  • Requires any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to graduation from high school/GED and two years of work experience in equipment operations, construction trades, building maintenance, concrete, or welding.

  • Welding and fabricating skills/experience is strongly preferred.

  • Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Learners Permit and an acceptable driving record at time of offer with the ability to obtain a valid Class B CDL with Air Brakes endorsement within six (6) months of hire date is required.

  • This is a Safety-Sensitive position which is subject to Drug and Alcohol Workplace Testing as provided in DOT regulation 49 CFR-Parts 40 and/or 382.

Supplemental Information

  • Prefer experience in repairing bridges, guardrails, welding, concrete, and fence repair.

  • Skilled in welding, using wire and stick type welders, and working with aluminum and steel materials is preferred.

  • Must be able to pick up, push, pull, or move a 80 pound object.

  • Ability to climb, crawl, kneel, bend, lift, walk and work in all types of weather conditions.

  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Ability to work flexible hours under emergency situations.

  • Knowledge of traffic regulations and the skill to set up a safe work zone.

  • The work days and hours for this position are Monday - Thursday 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
