Summary About the Position: Coordinates in the planning, managing, and conducting of an equine training program with the 3rd United States Infantry Regiment. Responsibilities Maintains training and maintenance records on horses and Soldiers. Serves as a horse trainer, ride instructor, hitch technique specialist. Develops lesson plans, operational exercise and other training material through the analysis of problems and behavior. Tracks horse profiles and limited duty restrictions in conjunction with veterinary personnel recommendations. Specialized Experience Required: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service which includes 1) equine and horse training techniques and instruction, including methods for working with hitch teams and training young riders; 2) develop training materials for horse training, maneuvers, and proficiency programs; 3) instruct on various horse training tasks (including bridling, conditioning, response training, ground control, lateral movement, communication, leg aids, horse psychology, postillion riding, harness driving, and ceremonial riding). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Instructional Design Teamwork Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09). Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements and minimum qualification requirements prescribed by OPM within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Because of the essential nature of this position, shall require that it not be filled by members of the National Guard, Ready Reservists or military retirees with recall obligations to preclude such position from being vacated during a mobilization. Relocation incentives may be authorized for highly qualified candidates. Position may be filled as a Term Appointment NTE 3 YEARS. Term appointments may be extended beyond six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years.
