GENERAL MAINTENANCE WORKER - STREET FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt SALARY GRADE: 700 DIVISION: Public Works DEPARTMENT: Street SUPERVISOR: Street Superintendent DATE: 4/17/2020 POSITION SUMMARY Under the supervision of the Street Superintendent and/or Street Foreman, performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled manual labor for a wide range of tasks from easy to potentially hazardous in the construction, maintenance and operations of transportation and drainage-related infrastructure and other public facilities. SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITION This position has been defined as a safety-sensitive position and the employee in this position is subject to DOT required pre-employment drug testing and random drug and alcohol testing. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES - Operates motorized manual-transmission vehicles and equipment including, but not limited to, dump trucks, pickup trucks, utility trucks, street sweepers, snow plows, roller compactors, backhoes, skid steers, forklifts, plate compactors, pavement saws, jackhammers, road graders, loaders and other construction equipment. -Performs and assists in the maintenance, repair and construction work of public streets, miscellaneous patching, asphalt and concrete. - Performs and assists in the construction and maintenance of storm drainage detention facilities and conveyances, such as ponds, lined and unlined ditches, manholes and pipes. - Performs and assists in the maintenance of public rights-of-way, including, but not limited to, heavy trash and tree limb pickup, tree trimming, leaf removal and snow removal. - Performs and understands basic surveying tasks such as utilizing laser transit. - Performs sign installation, sign maintenance, street painting and weed control with minimal supervision. - Operates and maintains ice and snow equipment and materials. - Cleans and performs light service maintenance of vehicles and equipment. - Able to work as part of a team, jointly carrying out assigned tasks. - Able to follow the City's policies and procedures safely and deal with a variety of hazards. - Subject to occasional "on call" status and overtime, including evenings, weekends, holidays, etc. Page 2 of 2 - While on call, the employee must be able to respond to the Street Department building within thirty (30) minutes of initial notification. - Other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES May supervise seasonal help, but normally does not supervise other employees. QUALIFICATIONS Education and/or Experience: - Proficient in basic math and reading and writing skills required to effectively perform the essential job duties. - Language skills sufficient to follow verbal and written instructions. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: - Must possess a valid Colorado Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or must be able to obtain the CDL within six (6) months of hire. - Must be able to obtain CDOT Flagger Certification within one (1) year of hire. Preferred Experience: - Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the operation of vehicles and equipment essential for roadway and drainage maintenance. - Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the maintenance and operation of public roads and drainage facilities. - Knowledge and use of personal computers (with Windows applications) and mobile radios. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand. Fine and gross motor skills are required such as coordinated hand-eye movements. The employee will be frequently required to reach, walk, climb, balance, kneel, twist, bend, crouch and crawl. Specific vision capabilities include distance, color and peripheral vision, as well as depth perception and the ability to focus.
