Weldco Shop Foreman/Planner in Fort MacKay, Alberta

Weldco Heavy Industries is a steel repair and fabrication facility located in the heart of Alberta’s oil sands. We are currently recruiting a Shop Scheduler located at our facility in Fort MacKay, AB. This position will report to the General Manager. This role will be Monday- Friday, 8 hours/day, and will appeal to an individual with a background in scheduling and planning within the mining industry, combined with a mechanical and technical aptitude.

What you will do:

  • Develop, schedule and document time estimates for each job to optimize resources.

  • Develop and document a master shop schedule

  • Working with Sales to develop scope of work per job as required.

  • Collaborate with Supply Chain personnel to ensure the required parts are ordered, kitted, and staged as per planned completion date.

  • Prepare work plans for daily and weekly schedules to ensure targets are achieved

  • Have a strong technical and welding background to allocate appropriate resources, parts, finances, costs and reliability information for each project.

  • Analyze and communicate the impact to project schedule when delays are brought forth by other functions (e.g. material delay, manpower delay, weather, etc)

  • React to urgent situations by assisting in the reassignment of available resources effectively to meet deadlines

  • Attend and contribute information during team meetings with regards to current/outstanding and/or weekly process

    Your qualifications:

    Education:

  • Journeyperson Certificate or equivalent work experience

    Experience:

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of HANDS-ON experience, particularly with, 797 Truck Boxes, 930 Truck Boxes, P&H 4100 Dipper Buckets, BU 7495 Dipper Buckets, EX8000 clam/backwall, PC8000 clam/backwall

  • A minimum of 3 years experience scheduling jobs in the mining industry

    Knowledge:

  • Understanding of planning and scheduling concepts as they relate to heavy mining equipment.

  • Knowledge of heavy-duty attachment products is an asset

  • Good knowledge with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and use of Microsoft Project.

    Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal skills to relate to all customers and co-workers at all levels

  • Strong analytical skills to diagnose problems quickly, strong problem-solving skills to resolve technical and non-technical problems methodically and logically.

  • Detailed oriented with a strong administrative background

  • Proficient computer skills to utilize and maximize the capability of various software applications to enhance productivity.

  • Be an assertive self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Have a strong understanding of the welding process, and mechanical principles

  • Continuously strive for quality/process improvement

  • Provide successful project delivery

  • Demonstrate a commitment to safe work practices

  • Hold a valid Class 5 Driver’s License

  • Hold a valid fall protection and elevated work platform certification
