U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command Motor Vehicle Operator in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri
Summary About the Position: This position is located with the3RD Chemical Brigade, 2-10TH Infantry Regiment on Fort Leonard wood .The Fort covers more than 61,000 acres and is located in Pulaski County, Missouri. Bordering the installation are the towns of Waynesville/St. Robert and Interstate 44. St. Louis is a 2 hour drive to the East along I-44 and Springfield is a little more than an hour's drive to the West of Fort Leonard Wood. Responsibilities Drive one or more motor vehicles including platform trucks, van trucks, passenger shuttle vans, and cargo vans which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of more than 10,00 pounds. Operate vehicles and associated equipment in accordance with established procedures and local regulations. Drive passenger shuttle vans over predetermined routes and arrive at and depart from pick up and discharge points at scheduled times. Oversee loading and unloading of vehicles by hand (with or without assistance) including arranging, securing, and protecting cargo to prevent shifting, loss, or damage while in transit. Ensure that cargo is properly distributed, secured, and protected to prevent damage or loss while in transit. Read installation maps and judge road/traffic conditions to determine the shortest and safest route. Perform operator maintenance, such as checking fluid levels and air pressure in tires, cleaning and washing of vehicles, and performing inspection checklists to ensure safe and proper operation. Maintain records and documents actions, such as operator inspection checklists/forms and accident/incident reports. Operate a two-way radio (or other device) to maintain communications with dispatcher/supervisor on assignments and locations. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Motor Vehicle Operator without more than normal supervision. 1) loading/unloading of vehicles and protecting cargo to prevent loss, or damage while in transit; 2) operating a variety of Government vehicles such as passenger shuttle vans, and cargo vans; and 3) performing operator maintenance on vehicles. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Physical effort is light to moderate. Work requires reaching, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls. Associated duties require stooping, bending, and climbing. Lifts and carries objects weighing up to 40 pounds and heavier objects with assistance. Responsibility: Instructions are received from the dispatcher or supervisor on the type of vehicle to be operated, destination, cargo or passengers to be transported, purpose of the trip, deadlines to be met, and any special information. The driver is responsible for the safe transport of passengers and/or cargo throughout the installation. Work is regularly checked and evaluated for timeliness, the safe delivery of cargo or passengers, and for following instructions. Trip tickets are examined for compliance with regulations and for completeness. Working Conditions: Drivers work mostly outside and operate vehicles in all kinds of weather. Drivers are exposed to dirt, fumes, and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents when loading and unloading the vehicle. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required. This is a Career Program (CP) 24 position.
