U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command Data Scientist in Fort Eustis, Virginia

Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for OPM Govt Wide Direct Hire Authority About the Position: Serve as a Data Scientist in the Research and Analysis Directorate, U.S. Army Center for Initial Military Training (CIMT) providing professional and scientific expertise in performance of work requiring knowledge and application of mathematics, statistics, machine learning among other scientific principles, methods, and techniques. Responsibilities As a Data Scientist, you will perform the following duties which is not an all-inclusive list: Apply advanced data science techniques to analyze complex datasets, generate actionable insights, and streamline processes. Conduct exploratory data analysis using programming languages like R or Python, and SQL, leveraging machine learning, predictive analysis, and optimization methods to offer data-driven recommendations. Ensure data integrity by coordinating data analysis and modeling efforts, provide expert guidance on improving program efficiency, and oversee data cleansing for large, unstructured datasets. Lead complex data science projects, from defining objectives to developing innovative methodologies for data fusion, analytics, and modeling. Create mathematical algorithms, models, and tools that optimize CIMT initiatives, validating outcomes to ensure insights drive improvements. Ensure senior leaders understand business impacts and are armed with analytical underpinnings to make informed, data-driven decisions. Use tools such as RStudio, Qlik, Power BI, PostgreSQL, and Julia, they perform statistical analyses, predictive modeling, and data mining Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Data Scientist: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. -OR- B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience. NOTE: Transcripts are required a the time of application.In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) working with large and complex data sets and performing extensive analysis of volumes of data, and 2) expertise in data modeling, query authoring and performance turning with an in-depth understanding of data modeling best practices and relational databases. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
