Indian Health Service Dietitian in Fort Duchesne, Utah

Summary This position is located within the Ft. Duchesne Service Unit. Incumbent is responsible for nutrition evaluations and consultations in conjunction with other team members. Plans and presents in-service education on diabetic and other therapeutic and preventative diets. Incumbent oversees the diabetes education program independently. Position is located in Ft. Duchesne, Utah. Responsibilities This position is being re-advertised to solicit additional applications. Clinical Care involves nutrition evaluations and consultations in conjunction with other care team members, either by referral or independent outreach, to assist them in carrying out appropriate therapy. Care plans are charted in the EHR and follow-up is conducted to assess progress and make needed adjustments. Plans and presents in-service education to other team members and service unit staff on diabetic and other therapeutic and preventive diets. Actively participates with other U & O Service Unit staff in development of appropriate patient and family education programs, policies, and materials related to prevention and treatment of diabetes and other medical conditions amenable to dietary and exercise interventions. Cooperates with Tribal programs to provide education in basic nutrition and the diabetic diet for native health workers on an as needed or by assignment basis. Guides them in providing follow-up for patients and family members and in community health promotion activities. Maintains all records and statistical data required. Performs or assists with the annual IHS diabetes audit and other statistical and narrative reports. Participates in professional organizations and attends approved educational programs to keep current and to maintain registration in the American Dietetic Association. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENTS, GS-0630: Note: Employees currently assigned to positions in this occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied.Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in the fields of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science. The educational program must have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For dietitian positions, the curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA) prior to January 1, 2012) in effect at the time of graduation; OR Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by AND (formerly ADA) for dietitians or nutritionists; OR Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Collaborating with staff to ensure coordination of nutrition services; prioritizes the specialized needs of diabetic patients; prepares nutrition and diabetes care plans for patients and family members. OR Three (3) years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. OR A combination of education and specialized that when combined, fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for GS-11 grade level. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Education This position has an education requirement.
